Will they only let you use this combo if you previously did interferon AND riba? Or, can someone who did interferon exclusively 20 years ago, but it didn't work take this?

I would hate to think they would say "No" just cause someone didn't do riba ever before and therefore tell them, "Come back when you have tried both and failed"....

Either way, the meds will make it so those that tried interferon will not have to take that again, even if it is another company.

I can't see them withholding treatment from anyone it would be effective for.

LEO - All the trials cited - Pearl, Sapphire and Turquoise - had tx naive as well as prior "non-responders" as participants. So yes, these are for all Genotype 1's - a and b - and regardless of tx history. I know two Geno 1a's who did the Turquoise II trial, which was specifically for cirrhotics. One was tx naive; one was prior non-responder (to triple). Both cleared and have already hit SVR12 and looking forward to SVR forever. I know a few others who did the Sapphire trial - cleared, and yep, SVR 12 and still going strong.

Note: this particular regimen is for Geno 1 - and the amazing thing is that,, unlike Gilead results, with Abbvie Genos 1a and 1b did equally as well (not so with Geno 1b in Gilead's Sofos/Led/Riba trials - b's were a bit less successful.

Again, I have all this in my head and no links saved, so I can't present anything here to "show" anyone what I read. I read so much. The Turquoise trial is the one I tried to get into early this year - didn't pass screening because of my low creatinine clearance, and I suspect this issue was Riba, which started at 1,000 mg for people weighing under 165 - it was cut and dry - 1200 mg per day if over that; 1,000 mg per day if under. I was WAY under, so that much Riba could have adversely affected my already somewhat compromised kidneys.

I am looking at this one, Kramer! I am not in a position to wait for Gilead to get its Ledipasvir or 5816 through the FDA late next year and out in 2015. If I don't get the off-label Sovaldi and Olysio, my sights are on Abbvie.

The Abbvie regimen requires taking more pills a day than the Gilead one(s). To me, so what? All use Riba and none use Interferon.

Need to clarify - Sapphire I was for Geno 1 tx naive; Saph. II for Geno 1 tx experienced; Pearl II for Geno 1b tx experienced; Pearl II Geno 2b tx naive; Pearl IV Geno 1a tx naive;Turquoise II Geno 1 tx naive - including compensated cirrhotics. It's all in the chart. And it is ALL GOOD!

Abbvie has been focusing on Genotype 1 - smart. The people I know who did the trials had 12 and 24 weeks. The 24 week folks started having issues with Riba after a couple of months - or a few. In same cases, their dosage was reduced. In all cases, they finished the trial, but yeah, Riba for 24 weeks was challenging for them - they all took anti-depressants, which helped.

I cantacted AbbVee last week about the trial going on in Dallas. They told me to have my transplant center fax my records for the last year. They were faxed to them on Thursday. But I called Dallas today and was told they haven't gotten the faxed information. So I had to contact my transplant center again and ask them to fax it again. Meanwhile, I want to get into that trial. Frustrating.

Doing a lot of reading today - Abbvie should be submitting its "stuff" to the FDA second quarter 2014.

So yeah, Gilead wants to grab a whole buncha Geno 1's before they are able to get Abbvie's tx. That's how I see it. Abbvie's stats are much higher for Geno 1's (96% even with cirrhotics - yeah, I know it's skewed but...) than Gilead's last ditch attempt to convince Geno 1's and their docs to do Sovaldi + Riba for TWENTY FOUR LONG WEEKS (Sovladi, no significant sides; Riba - ha - a whole 'nother story: the longer it builds up in your system, the worse the sx are gonna be - just a fact).

Marilyn, Abbvie has a trial for post transplants in Dallas? If so, yes, great. The process of getting even SCREENED for a trial is frustrating - I know, been there, didn't pass two screenings 350 miles from my home. Add the factor of travel in starting with just a screening - it's a lot of work - time and money - but well worth it if you can get into one. The key is having a place to stay during the times you are at the trial center, and you have that, right? I didn't. It was going to cost us a WHOLE lot of money, borrowed money.

I never trust faxes - for you, it's maybe best to mail your records by 2-day mail. Faxes can end up anywhere in an office, including the floor and then get tossed. I used to scan and e/mail my records as attachments, but that's probably a bit much for you, so see if you can mail your stuff to them.

Oh wait - your transplant center was going to fax them, Marilyn? um, well, I just have to say that I personally don't trust anyone but myself to have the "fire in their belly" to make sure things get done. They will tell you they faxed them. And then.... then what? Get those records and mail them yourself. My suggestion.

catmagic, yes, I can stay with my sister in Waco, which is about a 2-hour drive. I'm south of Houston, which is too far. Guess I'll call them back and get a mailing address and mail copies. I keep all my copies and can make more. I thought faxing them from the transplant center would be better. You would think if they can lose faxed info, they can lose mailed info. My computer won't let me scan then email. If I scan, it goes to my old email address that I can't get to anymore and I don't know how to change that. Thanks for your advice.

Yep, call and get a mailing address and send the stuff ceritifed/return receipt requested. Abbvie doesn't care who sends the records to them - so if you were thinking that coming from the transplant center would somehow hold more weight, forget that. Abbvie will contact them anyway, most likely. THE IMPORTANT THING RIGHT NOW is getting SOMETHING to Abbvie - asap - that puts you "in line" for a review of your condition and sitautions - and right now you are not in line at all - you are just someone they talked to on the phone. Don't wait for anyone else to do it for you even though they mean well - they get sidetracked, etc.

Marilyn, they will NOT lose a piece of mail that comes in certified, return receipt requested and someone has to sign for it.

well... ha... they could... but sending it that way is the safest way next to handing it to them personally and getting their signature that they received it.
