TSuzy is right. We all were shocked when we found out about being HCV positive, but it will be alright if you get treatment. I am geno 1a and stage 4 with cirrhosis, my doctor is treating it, transplant has never been mentioned. Try to get a biopsy and find out where you are at and start getting treatment to keep it from getting worse. I'm sure if you treat it you will enjoy a long life. I am planning on living to be an old man, and then some...

im not so much wondering if im going to die i want to know what lies ahead for me with the treatments and all beleave me i dont want to give up i just dont under stand alot what my doctors are talking about i would like to learn all i can and what to exspect thanks for your replys

It does hit like a ton of bricks, but gets easier as time goes by. You will learn a lot from this! And you will love life like you never have before. When I got labs back that showed my viral load had shot up from 3.3 million to 33 million, I felt like giving up. I cried and cried. Then I blew my nose and took another look at the labs. I ordered a retest and guess what: The labs were wrong. So don't give up on yourself! I'll be praying for you every day, sister!

Browse, get to know people. You'll learn here, you'll see. Everyone reacts different to the diagnosis and treatment. There are a lot of things that may or may not happen to you. HI ANGEL, WHY DOES YOUR DOC WANT YOU TO HAVE LIVER TRANSPLANT NOW. HAS HE FOUND NO LIVER FUCTIONS OR LARGE TUMOR THAT IS ACTIVE, I DON'T UNDERSTAND HALF OF WHAT YOU WROTE OR I WOULD GIVE YOU A BETTER ANSWER. i DO KNOW TUMOR MARKERS CAN SHOW ACTIVITY OR DETECT CANCER. BEFORE I TOOK TX I HAD AN ENLARGED SPLEEN ALSO AND A SWOLLEN LIVER, GOOD LUCK AND WRITE ME ANYTIME, HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER ABOUT THINGS AFTER YOU GO BACK TO THE DOC.

I can relate to what you are saying. It was just 6 months ago I was diagnosed with hep c. My genotype is 1a. I came here to learn about treatment but in Dec. that hope died because the doctor will not take a chance at treatment unless I am on a liver transplant list. They won't do a biopsy either. The symptoms I show for the doctors to make this decision are signs enough of a decomposing liver. Acites, verice veins, slight edema. My enzyme level is also high. I did have a tumor marker test that showed good(talked to the GI's RN so do not know the numbers from the lab to compare to yours) that I was probably not cancerous and that was followed up with a ct scan that showed no cancer but the edges of my liver showed rough edges meaning signs of cirrhosis. My GI before this had said I would eventually need a transplant and could put me on treatment but wanted the opinion of the hepatoloy clinic he sent me to that gave the above info on no treatment until on transplant list. Your doctor must be seeing some of these signs to make this statement. Will you please enlighten us on the tests and symptoms that you do know of that may have led the doctor to this decision. That will also give us knowledge to help you. The best thing you can do right now is anything natural like supplements, diet and positivly no alcohol. You will find a lot of info on those here. I do pray that it is not as serious as mine and you have better hopes for treatment and avoid a transplant. Be Well.

A positive attitude is half the battle.

Both my husband and I had type 1a, we both went thru the motions, did treatment, and to this day we are cleared of the virus.

There is hope out there with the treatments, so if you do qualify to do treatment, go for it, and the best of luck to you my dear.
