hi
my 16 year old son has acne. it is a bad case too and i've read that kids are more prone to bad bouts of acne if they have hep c. he has been through tx and failed and as you all know, the symptoms we already have before tx are exacerbated with tx. needless to say, his acne got far worse. we have tried all sorts of tx for it, even got script from doc, but nothing seems to work. at this rate he will be heavily scarred. can anyone advise a good remedy please. doc wont give him anti biotics cos of his liver, yet he only has minimal damage. BUT i aint gonna argue with her cos he is so young.
any info would be appreciated.

I broke out with bad acne in a few years ago, yes, adult acne. My problem areas were along my jawline, which my dermatologist said was classic of "hormonal acne".
I tried oral antibiotics and countless topical rx creams. It just irritated and dryed out my face beyond belief...my face would crack when I smiled...ugh. Before I was diagnosed with hep c, I was put on an 8 month course of Accutane in 2005...its aweful stuff, very harsh on the liver.
Make sure he is being gentle with his face...no popping, picking or harsh scrubbing...that will only make it worse. Acne is so hard to deal with!

i'm glad someone finally brought this up! Great post. When I started treatment my acne got horrible and I would get dark spots on my face from it, which never happened before. It was a different type of acne just very painful. I tried proactiv it worked okay, but was weird is when I started using st. ives apricot scrub just regular scrub NOT the one for acne, it cleared my face up. I think those with hep c or going through treatment have very sensitive skin. He may want to try something natural that may hep!

i will keep away from the accutane sid. thanks for that, but i will have a look at the proactiv and definitely try the st ives apricot scrub first. thanks nicole:)

I was watching t.v. last night pepy and saw an ad about all the different types of acne and the stuff to treat is by Murad. I've seen it at my dermatologist office and its really pricey but it supposed to work great. You might want to check it out.

If his acne is deep & under the skin you might want to look into zeno. It is a heat activated device that breaks up the bacteria under the skin. Granted he's 6 so you would need to help him. It doesnt hurt it just gets very warm & you hold device to acne for 2 1/2 min. Its expensive ($125.00) but is available @ drug store & has been awesome for me. Good luck!

I'm also sixteen and had problems with my acne. I tired the antibioics and they helped slighty. but I have the hyfrecation treatment done and I can totally recommend it. It is a 2 minute procedure and has really helped my skin.
