We also had corned beef and cabbage for our New Year dinner. Not a tradition for us, just had a craving for it.

I usually cook standing rib roast on New Year Day.

Debbear and I each did a standing rib roast according to Paula Dean's recipe.. I let bear go first.. Lol..
It was quite good!!!

Chinese food is common on New Years up in the Northeast- went to Japanese steak house and had 'hibachi' style steak, scallops and shrimp with all the fixings.

Peacefulsoul you asked about fried cabbage. You can do straight cabbage or you can add salt pork, bacon, or ham.

Thanks. I'd like to try that. I guess you'd fry it in olive oil. or if you use bacon you'd use the grease. Maybe add celery seed? Whatever, I'll give it a go.
