Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.

Settling into Maintenace

Good results finally. I thought I would be a quick loader but just had blood work done and its been 10 weeks since my last phleb and my ferritin is just at 56. Maybe I can end up going every three to six months or so rather than more frequent.

Sounds great, I'm assuming it was around 20 your previous lab work. I'm looking forward with going on maintenance myself around the beginning of next year. Did you notice any affects from your HH and if so, how are your symptoms now?

Eric I was actually about 56 before I phlebbed last time and after the phleb I was a bit tired which is not usual for me. I have a standard lab order for from my doctor for a ferritin test every two months.

SO my plan is to wait till I am over 70 and then phleb at the red cross.

As far as symptoms, I am one of the lucky ones and have never been symptomatic. The only issue that has seemed to improve is my gout attacks have not occurred, I am still on Gout medicine because my uric acid numbers are on the high side, but when I do have a flare up it is very manageable.
