Hemochromatosis Support Group
Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.
I just got my labs done after 11 months. I really didn't realize that much time has gone by.
Well here goes, The form is worded different from my past ones, that added to the confusion.
Iron, Serum or Plasma 168 ug/dl ref. 50-70
Iron Binding Capacity total 270 ug/dl 240-450
Transferrin Saturation 62 %sat high 20-50 ( was 42% 11 months ago.)
Transferrin Serum: Transferrin 237 mg/dl 200-400 (not sure what this one is.)
Ferritin 39 ng/dl 30-530 ( under 50 for us)
my ferritin was 30 on 8-15-12
It has been 11 months since last labs, I have been on a 90 phleb schedule, and do try to limit my intake of iron. If I am reading this right it looks like maybe i should get bled every 60 days?? my CBC and Liver labs were "normal", some on the low side some on the high. I have to do a little more yacking at my new md. he isn't familiar with HH so he didn't order all the tests I need. I hit his nurse up while he was gone to get my iron stuff tested.
The saturation level could explain my freakin brain fog/short term memory has gone, and it is hard pulling info out . sucks.
Oh well I will await any and all suggestions , I have to get ready for
what was that I have to do everyday?? Oh yeah work..

You might be a bit cautious in increasing your phlebotamy frequency. I am trying to find my frequency also and my last ferritin number was over 100 with a phlebotamy every two months. However, I am sticking with that frequency until I make sure it that one ferritin test wasn't an anomaly.
I have also read where people were overbled trying to reduce the iron sat number.
