Hemochromatosis Support Group

Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.

Hi all, I got my labs back and they said unable to analyze due to gross HOMOLYSIS What the heck is that?

This is all I could find that made any sense not sure if its correct but.. it could be

Hemolysis means that the blood cells in the sample broke down before they could be analyzed and the internal components of the cells contaminated the specimen. Hemo=blood, lysis=broken.

Thanks Meechie, Sounds they they messed up the samples badly. I know I wasn't in very good shape when they were taking the samples so I know she was rushing to get it done.

I spent some time on the internet looking it up ( an hour ) and my thoughts are that it was a mishap in the lab . I would get another test done to be on the safe side . Keep us posted on it , Queenie

Ya Queenie i will test again in two weeks when I Phleb again, My Phlebotomist is also the lab director and I am going to ask him about it. I will let you know what he says.
