Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.

intermittent fevers

Has anyone had intermittent fevers.Low ones. 99-101. That show up for no reason. And then ruin any chance of any test or phlebotomy that needs to be done.

I haven't. But I know hemochromatosis stresses and/or lowers your immune system. Lots of times I get just wiped out (energy-wise), my lymph glands get swollen, and I generally just don't feel good for several days. I credit this to fighting off ordinary bugs and viruses with an impaired immune system. I think it just takes more out of me to fight it off. Does this make any sense to you?

Makes sense. I have MS too so fevers can exacerbate things. I was thinking that the higher iron levels may have had something to do with it.

I have had a fever of unknown origin for 2 years now. The doctors dont know if it is from my hemochromatosis, thyroid cancer or my lovely new bone marrow staph infection. the highest it gets is usually 101.2

Mike, I get them all the time. Are you seeing a hemotologist oncologist? They will do my phlebotomies even if I have a fever.

Yep ...seeing an hematologist. She wouldn't do it even with my fevers. Maybe it was a CYA in Case something happened. I do need IV fluids before the treatment so maybe that will help.

    My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper?
