Hemochromatosis Support Group
Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.

Immune response
The immune response is how your body recognizes and defends itself against bacteria, viruses, and substances that appear foreign and harmful.
IMMUNE SYSTEM DISORDERS AND ALLERGIES
Immune system disorders occur when the immune response is inappropriate, excessive, or lacking. Allergies involve an immune response to a substance that most people's bodies perceive as harmless.

COMPLICATIONS DUE TO AN ALTERED IMMUNE RESPONSE
An efficient immune response protects against many diseases and disorders. An inefficient immune response allows diseases to develop. Too much, too little, or the wrong immune response causes immune system disorders. An overactive immune response can lead to the development of "autoimmune diseases," in which antibodies form against the body's own tissues.
Complications from altered immune responses include:
Allergy or hypersensitivity
Anaphylaxis
Autoimmune disorders
Graft versus host disease
Immunodeficiency disorders
Serum sickness
Transplant rejection

People with HHC or iron overload suffer from immune system decrease. Athsma and ecxema are two very good examples of an inappropriate immune system response. There are many more.
I'm sure we have all been able to agree that people with HHC and iron overload suffer from a great array of auto-immune disorders, infections, and viruses due to compromised immune systems.

When allergy season hits me I take a zyrtec once, sometimes two days in a row and I'm fine. Many people who think they "caught a cold" actually are suffering from allergies that are usually easily treated with antihistimines.
