Hemochromatosis Support Group
Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.
ZZ ; I like your idea about rubbing Dawn all over my body. ( I wonder how she knew my wife's name???) Now if I can only talk her into it.
Now as far as those experiments go,, I am truly the lab guinee pig,, I get volunteered to get "poked" by the Phlebotomists in training . You think I would run, but they are so cute and I just can't say no to a pretty girl...

I had never given blood before 5/2010 so you do have that advantage going for you. My phlebotomies are done in the hemotologist/oncologists office and it is the same as it was my first time at the American Red Cross (with the exception being that I'm in a private room with a recliner at my dr's office). My weekly phleb's were started at once p/week.
If you aren't fretful with needles, you'll be fine. If you have reservations, ask for a smaller gauge needle (like an 18, 20, 21gauge), it may help a little with the needle stick. It is suggested that you go in fully hydrated the day before and the day of the phleb. You might eat a light snack & drink a soft drink before leaving the office. That should prevent any lightheadness. They will monitor your hemoglobin & hematocrit each time prior to taking your blood to make sure you are OK to do so. I have yet to be sent home and I have been doing twice p/wk phleb's since Sept 2010 (due to wildly crazy high ferritin levels-totally different from the other ones in the group).
You've donated before, you should do fine.
Good luck & keep us posted.
