Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.
Hi everyone,
I am14 and was told i had HH in late september this year, i live in New South Wales Australia and am planning to write a letter to the politicians to try to convince them to have mandatory HH tesing of year 11 students (17 year olds in Australia) in alll schools private and public, which will hopefully identify and asssist other young people and their families who may not be aware that they have this condition, wich however is not preventable but treatable.
If anyone has got any ideas or important information wich you thing i should include please help me out by responding.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...

I'd suggest you contact the lady who runs the society (maybe join it also), others say she is very helpful etc. so may be able to offer advice. Someone from the society has already contacted me to tell me they will be writing an article in response to one of my posts there in the forthcoming newsletter!!

The Queensland Institute of Medical Research in Australia did (is?) do some research specifically into Juvenile Hemochromatosis (JH, I guess we can shorten it to) if you thought being involved in a study may benefit you, though QLD is a long way from Wagga!
The doctors name I saw mentioned was Dr. June Halliday, but she may have been a visiting scientist so she may not be there any more, but someone else is probably doing it now.
