My doctor request that I go to Pulmonary hypertension clinic at the Mayo clinic in jacksonville.He says that my CHF is connected to my lung status after they did my right heart cath.I have a pulmonary doctor here at home .Why or is it benificial to travel 3 hours to see another doctor and get charged another bill.Maybe he could suggest some meds to perk me back up and give me energy.What do you all think?

I believe that if I were presented by my cardiologist with your request - I would go to the clinic. I expect that their special expertise would benefit you in the long range.

And it is quite probable that they could recommend less intrusive meds to help you than the run of the mill pulminary doctor.

Well, all I know is that my dad ( many years ago) had asthma. He was a mess. They sent him to Mayo Clinic and they literally cured him. Yes..he still takes meds, but they turned my dad from a miserable always in the hospital wheeezing angry resentful man ( sorry...forgot the commas) to a happy, healthy man. They do AMAZING things at Mayo clinic. If a doctor recommended I go there, I would figure there is a good reason and I'd take the first plane out!! Good luck!!

Did your pulmonary doctor diagnose your pulmonary hypertension? If he didn't or what he is doing is not working, perhaps that is why your doctor wants you to go to the Mayo Clinic. I, like the other two responders, would be there in a heartbeat in my cardiologist thought they could do me some good. A few pills is not always the answer. And I sure as heck would not want one more pill, if it was not needed.

Its quite ironic but I was on the computer, and I read your post, as I am reading it. There was a medical show on the tv that is talking about a little girl who went undiagnosed for a long time with heart pain and fainting etc. It turns out she has Pulimonary Hypertension. When they were talking about this the talked about the importance with this of seeing specialists. The Mayo clinic is the best of the best. I know medical bills can be costly, but in the end, don't you deserve to know you went to one of the best places you could? Its just my thought. I hope whatever you choose its the best for you!

When I check into going to the MayO clinic I found out they don't take all insurances. And yes just a visit they wanted $2,500 for it.
So it isn't cheap.
But if you don't have the right insurance and you can't afford it then there are other good doctors out there, something my GP told me that MayO Clinc is just another group of medical doctors.

I don't know all the MayO clincs are good? just food for thought...
