It shouldnt effect anything at all but if you're concerned that the metal detector and the icd may have something against eachother you can explain that to security and they can do a patdown thing instead :)

I just flew to Norway and back via Copenhagen. First of all, a few days beforehand, I requested a wheelchair from the airline I was booking with, both ways. When we checked in at the desk, we told the person we had a wheelchair reserved and one came along shortly. When we got off the airplane, there was a wheelchair waiting. That was great. Some of the airports were huge, and not only did I save my energy, but we had a guide in the form of the wheelchair pusher who knew how to get where we needed to be. We also jumped the security line and went right to the front of the line. At that point, I told the security person I needed to be patted down; that I had an implant and couldn't go through the metal detector. I did have my defib card with me but never had to show it. No problem. Every time it was a woman who did the patting and she was very efficient. Then I hopped back into the wheelchair, and away we went to the gate, with my husband trudging along behind with the carry-ons. Have a good trip!

No worries about flying, it's not a big deal. I just made a trip to NY to recover with my family for a while. I came back Monday. You shouldn't go through the regular metal detector, but the full body scan machine is okay. They shouldn't "wand" you, either. I just got my ICD put in 7/11/12, and the company sent me a special id card to present at airport security. They were familiar with it, and all was good. I, like woolly also requested a wheelchair. Mostly because I was changing from a crop duster sized plane to an airbus, so opposite ends of the airport. :-)
I am on lasix PRN now, and took one the night before the flight, to make sure there wasn't any fluid already building up. (I heard that can be an issue sometimes in the air) The only other suggestion would be if it's a long flight, maybe get up and walk around some, during the flight. You'll be fine!

Eduwardo ~ By now you've probably completed your journey and know the answer to your question...probably no big deal. There is so much lore about security screening and ICD's and pacemakers that are just nonsense.

It doesn't help that the manufacturers often take the high road and give ambiguous answers instead of just flat out saying there is no problem.

My owners manual that came with the ICD ("ICD's for Dummies") states there is no problem yet if I call I can get a completely different answer from the manufacturer's representatives.

Anyway, hopefully you had a great trip and discovered there's no problem with an ICD. I did a journal entry about my experience you might want to check. Let us know how the trip went.

I've flown many, many times with my ICD....never had any problems at all.

This is off the collar sort of since you all talking about wheel chairs I thought I jump in....I know you all area requesting wheel chairs do anyone here take one along? or a scooter? had any problems?
Or do you send it thru like luggage? just in case I been thinking of taking a trip I probably could get answer from travel agent but then I was thinking how would I do it after I got to where I was going getting around...one thing inside air port but later after you are there?
any ideas?
