Heart Attack Support Group
Heart attack is a serious, sudden heart condition usually characterized by varying degrees of chest pain or discomfort, weakness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, and arrhythmias, sometimes causing loss of consciousness. It occurs when the blood supply to a part of the heart is interrupted, causing death and scarring of the local heart tissue.
But then they try another the next year.
Only found to not do as much or I thought so as much side effects.
Then I ran out of the things last month. Don't have any more. I not telling hope you don't tell on me lol
I hate them.
I guess they work....my last blood work said I was normal for once....sssssssshhhhhhhh.
I feel better, however I would like to try something natural, along with the 40 mil. and see how that works.
Over all I'd like to be off them completely if I can.
Have you gone off them or are you just thinking about it?
What side effects do you have?
Diana
I don't believe I've had side effects from my statin medication. Originally I was on simvastatin, but then I asked my doctor to please switch me to Lipitor (because I'd read research showing that the risk to the liver was somewhat lower for Lipitor), and he let me switch. I was on simvastatin 40mg, switched to Lipitor 20mg (which is the equivalent of simvastatin 40mg), then reduced to 10mg because my cholesterol was quite low- total of 108. My numbers remained as good, with HDL (the good one) continuing to gradually increase.
I take daily CoQ10 supplements, because I'd read that it can prevent the negative muscle side effects of statins. Also I take fish oil to help my cholesterol. Finally, I a very good diet- low in saturated fats, no trans fats, high in fiber, all that good stuff. So . . . so far, so good. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Songsi, tell us more about your dilemma.
Sometimes I just generally feel lousy. I went off of them for about a month about 6 months after my MI and felt much better. They put me back on them because they really want my blood levels to improve.
I did pretty well on simvastatin for about 7 months so they switched me to Crestor 10mg because its stronger. It did improve my chol. numbers by quite a bit but now I feel crummy again. I decided to go off of them for 2 weeks to a month to see if I feel better. What good are great blood numbers if you feel to lousy to function!!!!

I do know that people get different reactions from different versions; my co-worker couldn't take zocor but was ok on lipitor. I tried lipitor a couple of years ago and had problems with muscle cramps/liver issues.
Maybe you need to try yet another one...
Good luck,
Sharon
Second try on one a year later by my cardo and what my blood work up said I was sky high in numbers. sorry I don't remember what they were. I was on Lipitor 20 mg. I had so many muscle cramps I was taking med's for the cramps all the time... waking up during the night almost couldn't work they were so bad.
As soon as I got off the lipitor they stop. Thank God.
3rd time and a couple months later I think it was...........they put me on samples they had at my cardo ofice to see if I would do ok, it was Crestorl 20 mg and for the first time I didn't have side effects!!!!!!! Then the blood work show I needed to up to crestrol 40mg.
But like you I think a lot of my muscel pain I thought was coming from the Crestor. But so far after a month off........I am still having muscel pain
I take vicon or oxycoton for. I don't take them unless I am very bad with pain.
My doctor knows me that I don't like to take pills. So he writes me Rx's for pain without worrying about it.
I try to live thru the pain.
NOW lately my GP refered me to another group of cardo's one I saw over 3 years ago. The girl on the phone refuse to give me a apt. until she talks to the doctor I saw back then.
What happen back over 3 years ago was my HA. I saw a different doctor in ER....and that cardo I kept seeing.
So I never got tested by the one 3 years ago. He didn't want to do testing, he really thought it was stress or just because I was a girl etc etc.
So if I go back I will tell them see you didn't want to do angogram and look what happen a month later.
ONLY reason I want to come to your group is this other doctor my GP is reconmmending for a 2nd opion.
Well until I have a new cardo I will have to just keep going to my GP.
I been to all three of the biggie groups near me. So I guess I am what is call nongruded (mis spell) and I guess they don't give a damn.
I hope maybe one of these high fluting doctors will take a second look at what their actions are.....but only way is moving away.
I might have to go to Tucson or ??? to get a cardo.
All because of their attude about how they treat women and don't treat would be a better statement.
So I guess I should get apt with my gp and get my crestrol....pills again.
I don't know what you should do, whatever you feel you have too you need to do it for you.
not what I do or anyone of us do.
ok thanks for the post.

We worked this topic over a couple of times last year. You might want to type lipitor or statins into the search box and peruse those posts.
I tolerate the statins quite well. Am on Rosuvastatin and also Niaspan for lipids profile. In fact my total cholesterol was pretty way too low last time checked so I am allowed to sneak in a few culinary
cholesterol culprits. However; I am very used to the heart healthy diet and the old diet seems so decadent now and very untasty and overly
imitation.

Just Joe
