Heart attack is a serious, sudden heart condition usually characterized by varying degrees of chest pain or discomfort, weakness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, and arrhythmias, sometimes causing loss of consciousness. It occurs when the blood supply to a part of the heart is interrupted, causing death and scarring of the local heart tissue.
I am overwhelmed by the mountains of info both pro and con regarding the use of statins. I have been taking 80mg a day for almost 2 mo since my HA and am starting to get some grave concerns about this. At this point I don't know what to believe. My GP is of very little help when I mention some of my concerns to him. Does anyone have any opinions or experience they could relate? Just seems to me there is far too much negative publicity to ignore. I don't buy into conspiracy theories etc. but just want to make decisions based on truth and facts. Any responses would be appreciated
First off, welcome to the group. I never say I'm glad to see you here but that it is good that this forum exists for those who need it. You said that any response would be appreciated, so here goes. I have been on statins for 15 years, low dose, and doing ok so far. Baron has been on them for 27 years. I know they affect each person differently. I seem to be doing alright with no new symptoms. What are yours and how different or bad do you feel since starting them? I wish we could go back to the old days when a newcomer only had to say the first three words of your post and a dozen experienced EXPERTS would respond immediately. Hopefully, someone will get what it is about this drug and respond more effectively than me. Oh, and don't stick with ANY doctor who doesn't take your concerns seriously. All the best.

My experience with Lipitor was that it caused a gradual onset memory loss. At first, I thought it was just senior moments, but it got steadily worse. I did an Internet search using statins and memory loss as key words. It turns out I was not alone. I discontinued the Lipitor and started feeling a little better after a few weeks, then improved gradually after that.
I later tried Crestor. After just a few days, every muscle in my body ached like I had just been in a car wreck, so I discontinued the Crestor.
Although they aren't statins, I also tried Zetia and fenofibrate and had some bizarre problems with them too.

last appointment my TOTAL was 95 and Im on the minimum dose of
5mg . The doseages are no equal..5mg Crestor = 10 mg Lipitor = 20 mg Zocor. I have noticed some memory loss but not enough to make me risk not taking. My doc said he had one patient who claimed that Lipitor gave them amnesia but had no problem on Zocor. You could always try a different one. The big advantage to statins in addition to
cholesterol is they reduce inflammation in the body. Inflamation is one of the main factors causing plaque to rupture which is the cause of a typical HA. I do think it helps to take Co-Q10 as statins lower the amount of this enzyme in your body.
