Heart Attack Support Group
Heart attack is a serious, sudden heart condition usually characterized by varying degrees of chest pain or discomfort, weakness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, and arrhythmias, sometimes causing loss of consciousness. It occurs when the blood supply to a part of the heart is interrupted, causing death and scarring of the local heart tissue.
Long time Pal.
Well that's a great question. Ask your self the same question. How long did it take you to come to grips with having your Cardiac Event? I would pressume it will differ with everyone. I could also surmise they will treat you with kit gloves as long as you allow it. Are you moping around looking weak and shattered?, or are you hell bent on cardiac rehab and walking talking and interacting like a person that was given a miracle of a second chance at life?
Cardhunter, What a great post you have presented here. I will be keenly awaiting how our folks respond to that "Great Question"

Sometimes family, in trying to be loving and protective, tend to treat us with kid gloves. They probably fear that their actions might trigger another heart event. I would imagine that would make them feel awfully guilty if it did, and that's a valid fear. She is probably worried the stress will be hard on you. Maybe you can show your sister-in-law these posts and let her see how far you've come. Or perhaps you can just talk to her and let her know you are doing well and would like to help her.
You may feel a little resentful towards her for this, but it's really nice to have family that cares so much and is trying to be thoughtful. I'll bet that's the spirit in which she intended her actions and words.

I don't think anyone believes I even had a heart attack! I had very few visitors in the hospital, I had to explain a thousand times (well at least it seem like a 1000 times) to the same people why I stop eating red meat for a while. and my son didn't seem to care as he was running me through the ringer with all his stress inducing antics.
Just roll with it!
