Heart Attack Support Group
Heart attack is a serious, sudden heart condition usually characterized by varying degrees of chest pain or discomfort, weakness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, and arrhythmias, sometimes causing loss of consciousness. It occurs when the blood supply to a part of the heart is interrupted, causing death and scarring of the local heart tissue.
On June 10th I seen the Cardio Dr. and he prescribed Isosorbide and Nitro Tabs for my chest pain. I had the Viability test done on June 20th. They prepped me with some dye and then had me take a Nitro Tab. I was then asked to get up and go in the waiting room.
I stood up and wow; got dizzy; felt faint; and started sweating profusely. I was helped to sit back down. Then they brought me to another room and had me lie down with my legs held up by pillows. They told me it was because the Tab opened up my arteries so quick; a rush of oxygenated blood went to my brain and caused the rush.
Needless to say it scared the day lights out of me. I carry 81 MG aspirin with me; I take the isosorbide on a daily basis with my other meds..
How ever I fear having to take the Nitro-Tab if I have chest pain...I use the aspirin. I have an echo cardiogram on the 20th and also see my cardiologist the same day. I will explain to him how I feel...and ask to take one in front of him to see if it causes the same effects.

lowers your blood pressure. In case of a heart attack , it is supposed to
allow some blood to pass beyond the blockage so your heart gets at
least a minimal amount of blood. The asprin will thin your blood and assist in this process. Because the nitro quickly drops your BP , it can make you feel weak, light headed , or possibly pass out if you take more than one. I had chest pain a couple of years ago and took 2 nitro 5 minutes apart. As my next door neighbor was driving me to the ER
I came very close to passing out. My BP at the ER was 90 over 60..normally is about 125 over 80.It can also give you a pretty bad headache because it expands blood vessels all over including your brain.

Yea they gave him two nitro pills 5 minutes apart and he did great , but yea they did make him feel dizzy and quite "high" as you might say. He was rather giddy to say the least!
My husband has to also have an echocardiogram and a cath of his right side next friday when he sees his cario doc, The x-ray reports from a stress test say that it looks like he needs a stent put in his right side....so once that is done he will have one stent on one side and one on the other side! And he is only 52 yrs old last month!
The miracle was they live in a pretty rural area and the rescue had just purchased that defibulator....it saved his life.
I take Nitro for chest pains only thing I got for that....and yes got to becareful it can lower blood pressure, yet it is good to let your blood flow if that is what you need done.
