Your husband sounds like me! Four months ago I had my heart attack with one stent installed. Allstate said to me that after they review my medical records, I will most likely still be able to get a good policy for great rates. Look at it this way...I was a ticking time bomb because of my fast food diet and horrible sleep and stress dealings. After the heart attack, now exercise is a main part of my life, sleeping better, plant-based diet is 180 degrees better direction then previous diet. Pre-heart attack the life insurance companies would have lost out bigtime because I would have died soon but now that I am aware of the coronary heart disease; I am able to treat it optimally and have a much better prognosis than before. Yes, don't assume that we are now priced out of being able to buy life insurance. In their eyes we are much more qualified for them to cover, IMO.

I was 46 in January when it happened. Birthday was in March (so thankful I could celebrate it!) so I'm 47 now. Yes, will let you know. I really need to look into life insurance, get rates and get covered!

I worry about this too. We got a decent policy on my husband a few years ago, but we only got a 10 year term, which expires in 6 more years. At the time he signed up for insurance, he was already being treated for high BP and cholesterol and had a family history of both a dad and brother dying at 52. Now that he has had a HA and a stent, I wonder if we will be able to get another policy once this one expires. My husband will be 52 next month.

Let us know as I fear Life Ins will be very tough to get after having a heart attack. Any life insurance. Probably won't matter the age or the history. I will be surprised if it is anything but an automatic denial. They won't tell you this because they have to let you apply.

I actually ended up talking to our insurance guy yesterday, as we received a letter stating that my husband's smaller policy that he got 10 years ago is up for renewal or expiration in July. It was a 10 year term life policy. We can convert it to a whole life policy with NO PHYSICAL but the premiums are crazy high. The agent said that generally, with a heart attack, insurance companies make you wait 10 years (!!) without any further event before insuring you if a physical is needed (in which it is, in most cases). Ugh.

Thanks for the info, I did not want to bum people out, there probably are a few ideal situations where a person can get insurance after a MI, but overall I think they are pretty rare.
