Heart Attack Support Group
Heart attack is a serious, sudden heart condition usually characterized by varying degrees of chest pain or discomfort, weakness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, and arrhythmias, sometimes causing loss of consciousness. It occurs when the blood supply to a part of the heart is interrupted, causing death and scarring of the local heart tissue.
I know what you mean. My blood pressure is always on the low side. Mine is usually 90/60. I feel lightheaded alot, especially at work. When I stand for long periods of time, I get lightheaded and have to keep drinking water or it feels like I am going pass out. I get weak and wobbly. And when I am bending over and get up, (even when I get up slowly), I feel lightheaded and everything gets fuzzy. I get lightheaded when I exercise as well.
Beta Blockers you take can actually cause low blood pressure. I did some research on that and I found a possible solution.

I know that bb's can cause low blood pressure and was wondering if anyone else had the symptoms - and there you are! Slightly bonkers as I'm on bp tablets.
Thanks for your info on this. Really helps.
You take care, now

Yep our Cassie is right on the ball. Beta Blockers are used to lower blood pressure by slowing your heart rate. They are in a class called epinephirine inhibitors or adrenalin blockers. Your symptoms are right in line with starting on these meds. If they don't subside a dosage adjustment may be needed.
I learned first hand how these meds actually work. I was prepping for a long hike and my meds went missing. I was off them for about 1.5 months (various reason, some really out there reasons)but I was able to push my self faster harder and had more durability till I was up to about 20 miles a day. I thought my heart was repairing itself with every stride. When I started taking the medications at the same dosage again, I dehydrated, my kidneys failed, I could not keep the same pace as I had before and I became ever so faint upon standing. I was hospitalized in ICU until regulated 3 times. Da!
Beta Blockers slow the heart rate by blocking adrenelin production. Prety simple right? Yeah, if your heart medicinally can't reach a previous aerobic target rate and beats slower perminute it makes sense that your BP would go down and you would not be able to keep up as active a lifestyle.
Actually your BP is pretty spot on 93/64 with a heart rate of 97 BPM. I think they would like to see a lower BPM at rest or adjust your meds down to slightly raise your pressure to adjust for this deficiency.
Light Headed. That is very interesting. We need less BP to pump adequate blood flow to the brain while sitting or reposed than when need while standing and active. Makes sense to understand why we get light headed or faint. Hypotension at your levels are not life threatening. Even at much lower levels are not a problem unless you start falling out. Extreme hypotension will cause kidney failure and passing out and water retention. If this occurs get help immediately.
Also never stop taking this medication even for one day. This meds needs to be weaned up and down or drastic changes will occur in your BP which you may not be ready for.
I have been as low as 56/28 and still walked into the ER. I don't know if I am proud or embarrassed about that. But that was a first for that RN and attending physician. The took my picture.
The doctors like to keep me around 85-90 / 55-60 with a BPM of 55 -70 at rest. 130 with excertion. But our bodies are compensatory machines. If your blood pressure dips your pulse rate will rise to supply the vital organs until the medication won't allow it any longer to go higher to keep you conscious. So all these medications we have been asked to use take tempering and adjustment all the time. That is why it is critical to develop a nurturing proactive relationship with your PCP and Cardiologist. After time you may find your self just taking an aspirin and a gin and tonic with dinner. Could happen.

Just Joe
