I watched the video. They dont send you to jail for just talking. My oldest is in drama at school. She had a friend who graduated last year. He is 18 she is 16. Over the summer he want to a skating party for my daughters best friend who is also in drama. I got pissed there was parents there but I still did not like it. He is 18. I put the word out to stay away from my daughter. I will send his ass to jail. Now if this was someone who did not know her and she said she was 18 than that would be different. I will still be pissed. I dont talk to girls under the age of 18 and I dont talk sex with them. If I meet someone on the street and she says she is 18 she better show id. I would like to know who you are doing this research for? Also where is it going to be published?

I am just trying to warn people here just how easy it is to get into a bad situation. Also you can be arrested for just talking. If you do not understand that then that is fine but please don't fool yourself. That type of attitude is just what I am trying to warn people of. I know that you had concerns over my last post about Pedephilia. I understand and that is OK. You do not know me. Which is just what I am trying to explain. How can you be certain that someone here on HS that you may be chatting with really is of age? I explained in my other post why I got started researching this issue. If I had a teenage daughter maybe I would think the same as you although, no offense, I hope I would not. I do not think that just because one turns 18 should mean that every friend they have they should completely ignore until they also turn 18 themselfs. I think that it is a same that some thing that is neccesary. Our society sure is going that way now. How many of us would have been in prison ourselfs now if we all had that opinion? How many of us were dating people that were over 18 when we were not or under 18 when we were?

In the video, the 22 year old was charged becuase this girls dad made a big deal out of the chat. It did not go into detail about the chat. However there are many many cases where people have been caught up in stings where nothing more that chat had transpired between people over the age of 18 and law enforcement officers that were pretending to be under the age of 18. They were not under the age only pretending to be.

Again I am not condoning chatting with under age people. I am only trying to make people aware of how out of control our society has become. Thank you for giving a very good example of what I am trying to point out. Just because your daughters friend turned 18 he is no longer even allowed to talk to her. I am sure glad my first wifes dad did not think that way.

I assume that they were chatting about sex... but did it ever even say that? I agree that older guys talking to young girls is a bit sketchy. However, I have some very good friends in their 30s. Now, that's not weird now since I'm twenty. But I was a 17-18 year old chatting with a 29 year old-- is that so very wrong and creepy? We probably even talked about sexual things at some point, but we truly were strictly friends. I did actually know these people in person first but then continued the friendships long distance. My point is you cannot always assume that older guys talking to girls underage is creepy-- sexual advances are no good, agreed, but it really can be "just talking".

That said, I am a huge advocate for sexually abused and assaulted women and children (men, too, but women are the victims in 99% of cases). I also know that many people are wrongly accused.

Brent-- have you seen the documentary film Capturing the Friedmans? It's about exactly what you're talking about. It is by no means an easy topic and leaves you with a deep sinking feeling. Check it out...

THIS MIGHT BE HARSE IT IS JUST MY OPINION. Brent I am glad I dont live down by you. Because you must not have been a very good cop. If you listen to the tape he knew she was 15 and he did talk about sex with her. If you are an adult you dont do that. If she misrepresents or lies to who she is talking to than that is different. But he knew how old she is. The mom thinks because he did not go see her or touch her he should get a slap on the wrist. YOU DONT GET THROWN IN JAIL FOR TALKING ABOUT THE WEATHER OR HOW YOUR DAY WENT. As for your research you still did not answer what you are doing it for.

I'm with GSCH on this one peope. There is more to the story then is being told on 'Youtube'. Jail time means the conversation was very WRONG with the 15 yr old.

Excuse me something, the guys in their 40s & 50s chating to 14 0r 15 yr olds in very wrong at DS. Any male over 20 chatting to these girls is very wrong.

I am not saying what I am to give anyone a hard time. If that was my son. I would be mad that this girl was lieing about info. But the mom is not up in arms. That this girl mislead him and he got in trouble. She is upset the law is strick.

Oh well so much for the warning. At least some of you got it I think.

I realize now that I should have picked an airtight example to use.

It seems that people are more interested in keeping the sex offender laws the same regardless of who might get hurt because they don't really differenciate between the sevarity of the crimes. I tryed to make this point and let people know to be careful here and everywhere on the net. But it seems most just want to debate the example I used and my motives.

You wanted a disscusion. This guy got what he was supposed to. How can you back up a person who was talking explicit things with a 15 year old. That is what thae mom said.

brent, i do completely agree that there need to be different laws for different levels of sex crimes. It really is getting ridiculous.. for example, a ten year old is now a registered sex offender because he and another boy were "comparing peepees". I agree that the punishment for this guy was way too harsh, but I think we all agree that what he did was definitely completely wrong and he definitely should have had some punishment.

well first of in all fairness for the most part our judical sysytem is all fuked up . i am speaking from first hand experince . although with out some sort of law there would only b a fuked up world . i truly feel for the man and his mom but there are all kinds of injustice that happen eveyday . it is shamefull that good tools get twisted and hurt peaople .
