Healthy Sex Support Group
This community is dedicated to an open discussion about healthy sex and sharing thoughts and feelings about sexuality and improving one's sex life. Most active adults desire to have an active and fulfilling sex life, both for themselves and also their partner. Here we discuss common sexual challenges faced by both men and women.
however, I disagree Spyder, i don't know about where you live, but here in Florida, i feel the sex offender registry is very informative.
We can look at our neighborhood, and see who is a registered offender...however, I am smart enough to realize that just because someone is a registered offender doesn't make them a rapist...so we are able to pull up that person's record.
If i see that someone 19 years of age is labeled a "sex offender" because he had consentual sex with his 17 year old girlfriend, I am intelligent enough to realize that he isn't a threat to society.
However, if there is a serial rapist living next door to me, i sure as hell want to know that, so that my 11 and 13 year old daughters aren't walking past his house alone on their way to the bus stop everyday.
Ld - the video is a mom speaking for 10 mins of the story that happened to her son.
Her son was I believe she said in his 20s and talking to a 15 yr. old girl. She knew all his personal info and he knew none of hers (like where she lived or anything).
He never saw her or knew her last name even. He just talked to her online. Well, the girls dad found the convo and pulled up all this guy's personal info. The dad got the man thrown in jail and the man will be put on a registry for 25 years JUST FOR CHATTING. This man, just by being on the registry, is not allowed to go to a church. He can't go to a McDonalds b/c there is a playground. And he can't even go to Walmart b/c there are 3 arcade games there. And this is AFTER he has served his time.
He had no criminal history and no prior offenses. He worked in a daycare and loved children. He has to list this on any resume or job application. He can't live within 2 miles of a church, so he can't even go move back home with his parents.
BUT -----------> IF he had of had sex with a 15 yr old girl... if it was a first offense, he would have served no jail time. But just b/c he TALKED of sex with a 15 y/o online, he serves time plus is on the registry.
Theres alot more, but thats the jist of it. What complete bullshit!!!
It is a mother who's son is now on a sex offender registery because he was "caught" chatting on-line with a friend apparently his own age. About things that they should not have been chatting about but you know teenagers these days. Apparently her father viewed the chat logs and alerted the police who in tern arrested him and he will and forever be branded as a sex offender right along with sex offenders that have committed forced criminal offenses. We all really need to be aware, at least, of what our society has become. I agree that those that committ and have been tried and convicted in a court of law, of a forced physical criminal sex offense should be on a registery. However our society has made this into such a witch hunt and gone way over board trying to protect our children.
My point in posting this and hopeing that all would view it, is to attempt to make everyone aware of just how easy it is to get caught up in a wrongful charge (and therefore conviction in most peoples minds even before a trial) of a sex offense. Most people immediately referance a sex offender as a child molester without even checking.
Again I am not trying to protect true offenders. Just trying to make everyone aware of just how easy it is to find yourself in this type of terrible, life long situation.
Please be aware and be careful.
let me ask t his, would y'all have such a problem with him not being allowed near children if he was say, 40? a 40 year old man talking to teenagers about sex online? a little more disgusting isn't it? is he more of a sexual predator because he's older than the 20-something year old?
the point of him not being allowed children is because he obviously has some sexual interest in girls who are way underage.
that being said, i do think the sex offenders list is a little ridiculous and goes way too far. not being allowed near a school is one thing... but not being allowed to go to church or walmart is almost comical in it's extreme. You can also be placed on the sex offenders list for, say, having sex behind a bush in the park... you get the same status as a flasher and while I understand the feelings behind it (it's not fair to anyone who happens to walk on upon you) the huge amount of punishment you have to endure is absolutely insane. a night in jail? sure. maybe a ticket or a fine.
the sex offenders list is, i think, partly good (it just goes too far and needs to be changed) in that, if a child molester moves in next door, i sure as hell want to know about it because that person is a danger to my family.... but on the other hand... someone who killed his parents would be a danger too and there's no national murderer's list.
I agree that some of the laws are just down right outlandish...at the same time though, the squeeky wheel gets the oil, there are so many silent abusers who have even gone to their grave without EVER having an "earthly" punishment...One can only pray to God that they are getting what they justly deserve after death
However how do you know that who you are chatting with is under age? If they don't tell you and act like they are older how do you know?
My point in putting this out there is to let everyone know just how easy it is to find yourself in a life long situation for just chatting with someone on-line. My intent was to make everyone here aware for themselves and for their kids.
There are so many out there that had absolutely no intention of hurting anyone but they are now being convicted and crusified for life as a Sex Offender right along with the real Offenders and Preditors that we all need to be very aware of.
Please just be careful and make sure your kids are very careful what they are doing on-line.
