I saw a study on Oprah (yeah I watch Oprah, and the View occsionally, so sue me) and they took two pictures of the same guys. On one they had listed that he wasa millionare, and on the other that he made only about $20,000 a year. When shown a picture of a guy, if he was listed as being a millionare he was thought to be very good looking, if they showed the picture with the low income, the women rated him as average or even ugly. It was the same picture, the only difference was the income.
The person who did the study explained that women go for the guy who will provide the biggest piece of meat (security, income, material goods) and have done this since back in prehistoric times.
Men rated women who appeared to be fertile and child bearing ability over those who looked less able to bear children. Again going back to when men mated with as many women as he could to increase the size of the group.

Are you quite sure there was no 'cherry picking' of the data going on? How did they explain any exceptions that turned up?
I agree you cannot say EVERY WOMAN is like that, the same way you cannot say EVERY MAN is like that... The majority did follow the standard though.
I do things not because, the next guy does it, but because I want to.
That still does not explain the difference between man and woman, aside from physically.

It boils down to why do we choose who we choose or why are we attracted to some people and not others? I wager genetics and evolution has a lot to do with it.
As I said on another post, we don't *really* know anything about how our ancestors lived or chose their mates.
As far as I can tell the modern "science" of evolutionary psychology seems to be about 10% random facts and 90% assumption.
But I still maintain that Astrophysics is a rather more worthwhile scientific discipline than Evolutionary Psychology - which looks to me much more like dressing up popular stereotypes with a bit of manipulated "research" data.
Sorry, just a personal bugbear of mine - any discussion about how cavemen managed their sex lives is simply pointless :)
