I would say a bookstore, coffeehouse, library. Somewhere that it would be easy to strike up a conversation.
with that said, if your life is in the bar, then by all means look for a spouse, mate, significant other in a bar. if your life is in the church then look there. you need to look where you are...to do otherwise will invite a partner into your life that has opposite beliefs and idealogies that at first may seem no problem, but in time they will irritate you and then you will live the adage, "marry in haste, repent in leisure"

But many folks do it and you know it does take hard work, communication and compromise.
If they can afford to buy food they are solvent !
