Anytime the feeling of "emptiness" starts to get too much I complain to him that I need more connection from him and he'll usually start talking more to me, and asking about my day, etc because he knows that "talking" about meaningful things is how I feel more connected to him even though that's not his thing lol.
It is a constant struggle but I don't give up on him because anytime I talk to him about "connection" which is really me complaining about feeling empty with him but I wont directly say that...he tries and I honor that. I think if he stopped trying I feel that I would come to terms with "well I'd be better off alone and empty then being with someone and still feeling empty"
He's a lot more shallow than I am. I'm what oprah calls a "deep diver" big difference between us. But again I do my best by communicating when its too much and I honor that he listens and tries. I also keep up with my own goals that way I fill my own cup instead of waiting for him to fill mine which sometimes or actually a lot of the time doesnt really happen. Hope that was helpful to you:)
