No relationship is perfect. A long-term relationship requires constant effort to understand each other, fix misunderstandings, solve problems and continue to grow as both individuals change and evolve. Marriage can be an exciting adventure, a rewarding struggle, your most precious friendship, a painful, slow-motion explosion, or anything else you and your spouse make it.
My husband and I celebrated our first anniversary a little over a month ago. We've had our disagreements over everything from bedtimes to in-laws, and more pain than most marriages as young as ours. Through it all, we've managed to keep focused on each other. We've learned to argue respectfully, and to accept some of each others' flaws. I think, ultimately, that's the key. You have to decide that you want nothing more than your life with your spouse, and accept them for who they are.
Wishing you and your fiance the very best of luck!
Marriage should be a place of comfort, security and sanctity, a safe haven, where two people enjoy complete bliss, tranquility and satisfaction of every physical and spiritual desire.
You also cannot lose yourself in a marriage. Strive to be the YOU you have always wanted to be. Know that if for some awful reason you had to be alone- that you could handle it. Don't lose your identity. Love yourself so that you are able to love your partner in a healthy way. Your bond is only as strong as YOU are.
