I am currently struggling with how to improve life for myself and my kids. If you knew me personally you wouldn't really know me at all.
I am the father of 4 children. I have been married to my wife since 2001. We met in High school, dated and got married in our mid 20s and we bought our house when we got married. A 2 bedroom starter house which is too small for us now. Soon after we decided to start having children. At that point we had already dated for 10 years.
'on paper' my life doesn't sound half bad.
From the outside it looks a lot different than the reality the only my immediate family knows.
My pride keeps me from sharing this information with even my siblings or my mother.
On here I will be completely honest due to the fact that my posts are completely anonymous.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who paints a picture of the perfect family to the outside world.
To get to know me and my situation I would have to write a book. I'm tired of pretending and not knowing what I can do to make life better for us.
I don't want my kids to remember their childhood like this and I don't want them to repeat this kind of life with their children.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

DS is a support site though so we're here if there's anything that you want to discuss.... It's a good site.... I'm glad that you've found us.... Big hug........xo
I will give more details in future posts... But you can think of this as the preface to the story.
I talk to people every day about their lives and when they talk about their parents, what they remember most is happy or unhappy.
I came from a dysfunctional family. I would learn to "pretend" all is ok. At a quick glance, you may think ours was the average family. For those nearby, they would eventually realize things were a bit off.
Your last statement sums this up very well....you don't want your kids to remember their childhood like this....and you don't want them to repeat it. I was fortunate. I did discover in counseling exactly how the cycle affects everyone in the family. So for years before... I felt responsible for all the chaos, but would finally learn that wasn't true.
My hope for you and your kids is that you may find a counselor (or therapist )to help you realize this is not your fault......and to begin to guide you in steps that will help you all progress back to a better life.
PS Here you can open up and say whatever is on your mind. Knowing you're not alone and having others reach out to help because they understand just what you're going through
