I met someone on the app Happn. In case you never heard of it, you find people through location. They show other users that has crossed paths with you. I've used it years ago and it worked fine.
Now that I moved to a new area and my last relationship ended recently, I was lonely. I went back to Happn. This new person and I have communicated by texted and talking on the phone.
I don't know if I'm just being paranoid or if my suspicions are correct. Red flags so far:He say he works on an oil. That is a popular vocation used in romance scames.
He's been very loving with me already. Before the internet , when started dating someone, getting romantic right away wasn't unusual. This red flag confuses me.
I have two pics of him. In one he looks to be in an office and wearing a suit. Why would a person working on an oil rig be wearing a suit unless he works in the office and not doing the dirty work. I did an image search on this pic but all it brought up was pics of suits similar to what he was wearing.
Resend why he may not be a catfisher. He talks to me on the phone. Catfishers are sad to avoid this.
He hasn't asked for money or gift cards.
I just want someone else's opinion. I'm very stressed out about this.

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

Does anyone follow her? She's really got some good tips.
Also look up his phone number they do have free text and calling apps which whenever I have looked up scammers numbers no names are ever displayed just says scammers
Ask him for a certain picture like smiling or wearing his work uniform
If you have his name google it
Like if his name was Bob Millhouse put his location I’ve found out some information about people I didn’t even know
I had a friend who was the same, and he was a scammer...if he asks for money a Definite No!
Hope you are enjoying your new place :)
I think ask if he will video chat. I did a reverse phone search on his number. It said it was based in LA, CA. I don't know if that's good or bad..
Thank you everyone for your input.
Anyone who does the love bombing stuff is trying to set us up for narcissistic abuse type relationship. Or they are an "energy vampire". People who are energy vampires look for people who can be used, who are lonely, who are sad, who want to help others.
I watched a show on the scammers from Nigeria. Listen to me here, this is important. Your assumptions of who might be a scammer or catfisher could be wrong.
Men faked a woman's voice to convince men on the phone that they were talking to a woman. Scammers will talk on the phone with their prey. The TV show had the video of the men speaking in women's voices to the male prey on the phone. Do not assume talking on the phone means someone is a good, loving, human being of high character. Catfishers and scammers do talk on the phone!!! They will likely avoid in person contact unless they live in your area. The phone number can be changed or run through a computer program to not be what is the real number. I don't know what it means that "his" phone links to a California number, do not assume anything. The one thing is these catfishers will eventually want money with some sad, sob story. The victim feels like they are helping some poor person in great need so the victim feels happy to help. But it is all fake. They prey on our need for connection and desire to be helpful to other human beings.
Saying he works on an oil rig, is that what you mean by works on an oil? This would allow him to be gone a lot and not make some victim think he is avoiding meeting them in person. Yes, the guy in a suit may be strange, especially if he is carrying a briefcase. But sometimes people are all dressed up for like a wedding or funeral and thus have a fancy photo to show. But yes, a guy working on an oil rig dresses differently than wearing a suit to work.
Big hug sweetie... I think meeting someone who lives close to you would probably be the best idea and you can get to know him out and where you feel safe
I do think a lot of online beginnings can work out well..... I have a couple that I know of... my niece married a man she met online and it's a very successful marriage and my ex SIL has been living for years now with a man who she met online so there are some good matches to be had and I hope that you'll meet someone special....xo
It's hard when a relationship ends and you want a new one. If you decide to continue to online date, enforce some boundaries. Chat on the app for a week see how it goes, exchange numbers and talk for a week and if no meeting dont talk to them anymore. Rinse and repeat.
