I don't feel needed in my relationship
Hi, I've never done anything like this before but thought I'd try it and see if anyone reads this or replies.
My boyfriend and I have been together nearly two and a half years there have been ups and downs as you'd find in any relationship but for a few months it's become increasingly negative than positive. We both went to the same school and now college and we don't live too far away from one another. However, throughout our relationship he's become more distant, less romantic and less 'bothered' with me.
We might see each other once or twice a week, maybe for a few minutes at the end of the college day. He's seems less and less interested in me and more focused on music and getting better at playing the guitar and bass (which I completely respect and am happy that he's found what he wants to pursue in life). When I see him I feel negative feelings such as feeling sad, lonely, detached, distant and that we're more like strangers than a couple.
There's no romance and we don't make enough time for each other as we should, I am home almost all evenings and don't go out as much as someone my age should do -he knows I'm home alot. It doesn't help that I can't drive so then I'd be able to go over to his but he does drive and when we do see each other i don't know what to say/do as there isn't that close emotional element and so I don't feel relaxed with him. We tend to do the same things like watch TV there isn't much sustained conversation between us and this makes me feel really bad and worse.
The first year of us being together was the best year of my life I was completely in love with him and wanted to be with him all the time, do things together and go to places and enjoy each others company. However now it has changed, maybe we don't trust each other enough or don't open up and involve each other in one another's lives as much as we should. I've contemplated about breaking up but that makes me feel worse, I feel scared of losing him and am not entirely sure what I want. Perhaps I have been too demanding/not made as much an effort to arrange seeing each other. Even when I do ask if he wants to do something or get together there always seems to be something that's making him busy. It would be nice to see him more and made to feel like he does want to see me and be around me as much as I want to with him.
This sounds horrible but sometimes I find it hard to say 'I love you' to him - sort of like a choking feeling. I wish he'd open up more and tell me how he feels and what his thoughts are/what's on his mind rather than the quietness that there is. It's obviously important when in a relationship that you do have time to yourselves and space to do what you want to do and work on yourself rather than being held down by your partner/the relationship but this is too much space and separation.
I'm sorry if this has gone on for quite a while but if anyone can offer me any advice at all I'd really appreciate it and already it feels so much better getting these worries off my chest.

Here is my new brother, copper :) He's so tiny! Moo and Tuck were ok with him on first meeting. Rocket due to his severe aggression will never meet Cooper.

it sounds to me like your relationship is dwindiling out that happened to me before and its ok i think my situation was about the same time frame too and i think my relationship was gone probably 6 months before i ended it what i did was go out more and experience life and it made it easier for me to let go and move on maybe thats what you need go out more have fun meet people when your done you will know it sounds like your almost there but your just too lonely like i was and you just need that little nudge
I know it hurts however spending anymore time on a relationship that isn't there for you is simply wasting more time..... I think you need to talk with him openly and honestly .... Another hug.....xo
I think you sound completely reasonable, that you don't expect to be together all the time, that you're willing to give space and time. Just be sure you're not settling if what he does provide doesn't feel good to you, emotionally. And I think waiting until you're ready to really evaluate it and talk to him is a good idea. I think it's smart to take time to collect your thoughts and assess your feelings. Seriously, you sound like you're very together.
Thank you for all the advice you've given me!
