I am in a new relationship of 6 weeks with Mike and I had a friend invite me out for Valentines Day. I told Mike that I would much rather see him, but since we had not determined what/if we were doing anything I wouldnt commit to my friend until I had confirmed yes/no with him.
He said " I guess we could go to dinner or something." It felt like the whole idea was an after thought to him. Isn't it a bit early to be forgetting that? I'm guessing this is a sign of things to come...? Or could I be wrong. Maybe V-Day is not that big of a deal to most men no matter who new the relationship?

Well I'm lucky, my birthday is Valentines so, if my bf forgets he's in huge trouble.
Look at it this way, you've only been dating this guy for 6 weeks. Both of you don't really know each other. I really wouldn't think much of it until you're a year into the relationship and see if he does it next year. Go out w/ your friend and have a Happy Valentines!

Mine calls it a "government holiday". I dont know why. He says he refuses to celebrate. I'm alright with that actually. Valentine's Day usually goes horrible for me if I celebrate it.

some guys just dont get it, or want to do it. my dad needs prompting every year if he wants to get my mum anyhting, and then i get to organise it!

You two have only been together 6 weeks, I wouldn't take it as a sign or anything because as most said, it's not THAT important of a holiday. I DO love the heart shaped boxes of candy though. I wish they sold those all year around..

He might also feel like maybe you were either pressuring him when you mentioned about your friend wanting to go out with you that night but you wanted to know if he did.. It might not seem much to you, but to some guys, that's a huge flag for a clingy girlfriend. *rolls eyes* Men... Uhhh... Or he could have felt sorta jealous when you mentioned your other friend as well..

Just don't take it too hard.. Mkay?? Have a great Valentine's Day!

I think it depends on the guy - some are into Valentine's Day while others think it's no big deal.

I agree with what ABCMommy said....sorry, ABC, I know I've said that in another post somewhere but you always give such good advice!

I think it's a commercial venture, but I'd like to do SOMETHING special (if I had a lady to celebrate it with), like go to a fancy restaurant and gaze into each other's eyes in candlelight (LOL...the romantic in me).
