I'm in my late 20s and was born and raised in a college town. I've dealt with this before, but recently it seems to bother me more and more. No one around here really wants a committed relationship it seems. Everyone is out looking for/fine to settle for a friends with benefits type of situation and don't want to be involved in a relationship. I don't know if it's the transient population, the party atmosphere, etc. but I'm getting increasingly frustrated by it. I understood it to some degree when we were actually still in college, but when I'm going on dates with guys in their early 30s that still have that mindset, I can't help but view them as...pathetic. I mean, it's time to grow up. I don't want someone just to have sex with, I want someone that actually cares about the other person.
After another date this past weekend where the guys intentions were pretty obvious, I'm feeling kind of low. I'd like to find a quality guy that I could possibly settle down with some day, but it seems like I'm asking for a unicorn to show up in my yard. Online dating isn't something I would be willing to try and I've heard even more horror stories from friends who have.

I feel ya, it's pretty sleazy. Maybe fish in a 40 and older pond, where the 18-24 year old college girls would hopefully be regarded as silly twits and you'd be regarded as prime real estate. Or move away to somewhere more mature.
Onmy: They ARE fresh and nubile, in their child-bearing years, and it's not a question of themselves in their own age bracket considering them twits, it's a question of older people like the OP and men in her age bracket considering them twits, silly, spaced-out, lacking depth. You're right though--it takes men awhile longer to mature than women!
