Am i right to want to give up on this?
My husband is so secretive it drives me nuts. we have only been married 10 years but since day one he has hidden things from me. He would take his mail to work unopened etc parcel would arrive but he would again take them to his work unopened.
I then started to snoop, his phone, his computer etc. I feel a bad person doing this but i felt something was not right.
i found out that he had taken out a credit card and ran up £3k of debt on it, an overdraft which was in joint names was owing £2k. He had a bank loan from his past which he had chosen to hide from me. etc etc. we have a good income and lifestyle but he doesnt pay off one thing before he takes out something else.
Then last week i found out that he has gone guarantor on a 6k loan for his son. I am really upset about this as his son has twice already lost his job and it will take 4 years to pay off when we will nearly be at retiring age. I am upset as again he has not told me or asked me about it , i feel that it is lack of respect.
when i told him about it he doesnt even say sorry or give any explaination. he just goes quiet and then turns it around like he is the injured party.
To add to that he consistently has nude women on his phone and laptop. he knows that these videos and pictures make me feel worthless as i have told him but he continues to do it. The only thing that gets turned on in our bedroom is the tv which he refuses not to have on.
when we go out he is like an owl with his head twirling around looking at anyone but me. He never shows any interest in my life or health, even when i have been to the hospital he doesnt ask. i have told him that i am depressed - how does he react - silence.
i feel invisible as he goes around making eye contact with any young woman that passes. I know he cant go about with his eyes shut but you know what i mean. he stares and smiles - only at the young pretty ones of course.
He is obsessed with tv and his hobbies, he barely looks at me if i talk. in fact he will hand me a drink while looking the other way.
Now he acts like he has done nothing wrong and i am at the stage where i just wish he would disappear and then i again feel like a bad person.
I told him that i wanted to end our marriage but all he said was ok. However he acts like nothing has happened and that things are normal. This is what he does.
I feel like i am going off my head with this man. He honestly gives me nothing emotionally or physically. I am so alone and depressed but have no one to talk to about it.
I feel like i need some straight talking to get it straight into my thick skull. I have a history of abusive relationships too so I am aware that i do tend to let people treat me badly.
what do you think ?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Discreetly consult with an attorney and have a list of questions handy. Ask if there's a way to get your name removed from debts that he racked up without you even knowing. The sooner you break away from him, the better. Ten years is long enough. He will throw guilt at you, but you don't have to take it.
Yes. Get out ASAP.
You may be dealing with a sociopath based on other things you told me about.
This just completes the picture.
He shows remorse, but then turns around and does something mind boggling.
People who have real feelings don’t do that.
I suspect that all his emotions are fake, including when he says he loves you.
This is NOT how you treat someone you love.
Be safe.
i think because we both have so very little confidence and our self esteem does sometimes waiver.......it is easy for us to give in to the guilt....and fear. (And they both know this... and count on this.)
I am fortunate that my stbx (feel funny calling him that as he is NOT ready or willing to agree yet) has not been secretive, ogling pretty young things (we don't go out much though )..though he does make remarks of women sometimes on tv...who are better slapped together...I think to make digs since he knows how self conscious I am.... Nor is he hooked on porn....he has shut everything down.
With all that you have shared, you have put up with more than your fair share already. I know how scary it is to think of separating and worrying about debts and finance. I do think you should do as I did and go for that initial consult with an attorney.(with your questions in hand....I did.)
I was dragging my feet collecting all the info for next mtg (First official one beginning the process) .I am scared to death and dreading his reaction and what could possibly happen.......but if I think of how you are being treated, and how I have been treated.....wouldn't I (and YOU too) be better off on our own to just be????
PS Are you aware some consider neglect a form of abuse? The fact that we both are physically and emotionally discounted and ignored speaks volumes. It is time we do realize it is time to stop the cycles of abuse we seem to get sucked into.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
You’d tell her: Contact a lawyer. Document everything you find. Start setting up a support system. Tell someone, your doctor, a coworker, etc.
There is SO MUCH to be said for having peace now in my life. A quote from Elie Wiesel (and a line from the band the Lumineers) "the opposite of love is indifference" - this rings so true.
May you find the strength to pull yourself up. May you find the opposite of indifference.
Passive Aggressive: of or denoting a type of behavior or personality characterized by indirect resistance to the demands of others and an avoidance of direct confrontation, as in procrastinating, pouting, or misplacing important materials.
Bingo. Now ... get to it.
I also removed my wedding ring today and i actually felt happy and hopeful.
Maybe i will get there. Thank you to all of you who have listened to all my woes and problems over the years. I can look back at my journals from 10 years ago and realise that nothing much has changed. how sad is that. and what a waste.
wishing all of you peace and happiness. Thank you for replying to me again
