Every person has their own definition. Is it feeling strong intoxicating emotions that choke your heart in the middle of the beat? Is it having such strong sexual attraction that you can't wait to get home to rip his clothes off? Is it desire to have his babies and play house?
I have my own definition of what being " in love" feels like to me and I can tell you that from my POV that " in love" feeling comes up constantly when it is mostly infatuation in early stages.
The real love to me shows up in form of building something together , a family, a home, memories without arguments and anguish, caring enough for your partner to want to jump out of bed in the morning and bring him a cup of coffee in bed, or when your partner finds you beautiful and wonderful no matter what you look like, when you really on each other for the support that no one else can give you, when your partner can feel what you are thinking.. Etc
Sometimes I would get that " in love " feeling with that person, but desire to be with him is consistent no matter what.
The giddy and cutesy stuff is pretty much hormones shooting into the brain and these types of relationships most often crash and burn from what I know.
I was married for five years and realize now (and for some time now) that I never really was in love with him. Only in love with what I wanted all of it to be but never was. (if that makes any sense)
Good luck
