Did anyone here watch it yesterday? Were any of your questions answered? I found it very useful because it cleared up some things that I was unclear about - like the insurance exchanges and the reason for mandated insurance.
1. To be able to pick what we want for coverage and to be able to price that coverage - or comparison shop as it was put yesterday - is good for us. The fact that minimum requirements, would apply to those offering insurance, would keep the insurance companies on the straight and narrow, IMO.
2. To make insurance coverage mandatory would, according to my understanding, make it impossible for the insurance companies to pick only healthy people for some groups and create a "high risk" group for others, again pricing those policies out of reach.
And to make it illegal to deny someone due to pre-existing conditions - is SUCH a good thing. When I heard that acne of a family member was considered a pre-existing condition that provided a basis for a family being dropped from their coverage when they needed it - well that shows us how far the insurance industry has taken their nonsense.
What I especially enjoyed was that Obama kept saying he wanted the citizens of this country to have the same options as those in the Senate have. No one said a word in opposition to that.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Since acne is a pre-existing condition that prevents an entire family from getting insurance then surely 100% of American families cannot qualify for insurance.
Do you see how stupid this sounds. Do you actually believe this?
The health summit was a worthless dog-and-pony show for the ignorant masses. It was supposed to show that their government was working hard. The Dems had no intention of exchanging ideas and most intelligent Americans can see right through the theatrics. At least the "beer summit" had some brew to go with the heaping helping of hypocrisy.
Comparison shopping is apparently satisfactory for Congress - it should be satisfactory for all of us.
gipper - you believe in capitalism - competition is an integral part of capitalism. I do not understand why you would think that competition would not work in this situation.
