Oral cancer or oral cavity cancer, a subtype of head and neck cancer, is any cancerous tissue growth located in the oral cavity. It may arise as a primary lesion originating in any of the oral tissues, by metastasis from a distant site of origin, or by extension from a neighboring anatomic structure, such as the nasal cavity or the maxillary sinus.
I've been having biopsies for 2 years now (I have Hashimoto Thyroiditis)..My last 2nd to last one was a year ago and my recent one was last week. The results showed that I have suspicious malignant looking cells. He is sending my slides in for a second opinion and I get the results on Friday. He said if this second opinion shows the same results as the first than I have to get my thyroid removed (I am 28 years old..wasn't expecting this so soon!!). Do they ever "confirm" these "suspicious" cells or do they just remove the thyroid and never confirm that its cancer? How does this work??

They will biopsy it to verify , I think its some kind of medical law thing that is required of them .

I already had it biopsied thats what the results came from the "suspicious malignant looking cells" came from the biopsy I just had.

Once removed it will be taken apart and tested again , still part of the medical mandatory stuff but they also record the differant cells and growth for future medical needs. They wont tell you all this but its all recorded for science .

So before the removal of my thyroid they can't tell if its actual cancer or is that what "suspicious malignant looking cells" means? cancer?

Any which way you look at it , it is an abnormal growth which needs to be removed so it could possibly block out further damages , hopes this makes any sense , I know its so confusing in the beginning when doctors tell you in thier scientific terms .

I can't wait to meet with my Dr. He is still waiting for the second pathologist to give him her opinion. She isn't going to be in till Wednesday. My mom is in remission from ThyCa and she went to my same Dr. and he has always said that our Thyroids are identical so I dont really doubt that I have cancer that much. We shall see though.

I am so glad everyone seems to be getting a little bit better. I just left the ER. The DR in the ER said I have bad throat cancer. All they did was a ct scan take blood and feel my throat. Is this how they tell you something so bad? I have not even been to a ear nose and throat yet. I am just so scared.
