I was diagnosed with Hep C, Genotype 1a in Aug. of 08 a few weeks after I donated blood to the local blood bank. I began treatement (Interferon & Ribavirin) on Oct. 10, 2008. At the time I began treatment my viral load was just slightly under 4 million. Three months later, I retested the viral load and it had dropped to 2 million in Jan. 09. I continued treatment even though the virus was still detectable because the doctor and I agreed that possibly I was a slow responder to the medicines. So a few days ago and 6-1/2 months into treatment I had more lab tests. Yesterday, the lab faxed me the news. I am in disbelief to now learn that my viral load is now over 8 million! Obviously, this medicine is not working but nobody never told me that the viral load count can quadruple in 3 months of treatment! I had a feeling things were not good as I have been experiencing liver pain, swelling in the right side, back pain and so on. Not to mention, this treatment has made me very sick and hardly able to get out of bed each day and function. I have not missed a day of work since treatment began, but I can't even explain how I have made it the past 6-1/2 months. I see my doctor next week so I have no idea if I have just made this virus even worse with treatment and shortened my life even more. I called the pharmacutical nurse hot line for the Interferon and she told me I could quit cold turkey which I did last night. However, she said it takes about 6 months to clear this stuff out of the body and a good 2-3 weeks before I even start to feel better! So the moral of the story, is if your liver biopsy is not bad which mine was not (on a scale of 0-4, I was only a 1) then forget about it. I am 49 years old and probably could have lived a normal life without treatment. Now I don't know. Could this treatment have shortened my life tremendously? I can't find anyone else who has had this happened to them so I have no answers. And I am sure the doctor will just give me some type of generic statement next week when I see him. So basically, I went from 4 million prior to treatment to 2 million three months into treatment to over 8 million six in one half months into treatment. I hope my story helps someone out there make a better decision that I did with taking this treatment. It obviously is pure poison that can replicate the virus 4 fold in just three months if it doesn't work. Does anybody have any input on this?
Thanks,
Susan

Lloyd Wright says either of those can cause the viral load to skyrocket.
Jim Humble says that the viral load will skyrocket and then plummet with MMS.
What this could indicate is the the liver is rejecting the virus so more of it is floating in the blood stream. I don't necessarily believe that, but it is a possibility, according to Jim Humble.
Talk to me, if you want to Yahoo Messenger, you an reach me at katmakiah@yahoo.com or just message katmakiah.
Thanks to everybody for caring. I was never depressed since I started this treatment, only when I got those darn lab results yesterday. I will recover though. I think I am more mad and stunned than anything.
responder you were a non responder. If you had a blood test at 8 week it was lower than 2 mil. At that
point riba was doing more harm than good. I'm so sorry that happen
If i was you I think about get in to a fruit and a vegetable diet for a while
hang in there there is still hope.

I do my best to let everyone know that there are many drugs that need to be avoided if one has Hepatitis C.
Nexium is one of them.

I have had hundreds of phone calls and emails from my clients who are successfully lowering their viral load and all of a sudden it is up millions of points.
Many of them have one thing in common. They took Nexium, the purple pill you see advertised on TV for acid reflux disease.
This time it was Carolyn W.
In October 2006 her viral load was 143.000
Carolynâs doctor gave her a bag with 4 sample bottles of Nexium, 7 pills per bottle, 40 mg per pill.
She took all 28 pills.
She retested in December of 2006 less than two months later and her viral load was over 5.000.000 (FIVE MILLION).
I have seen this well over a thousand times where only Nexium was taken.
I also see this with Amoxicillin, Flu Shot, Hepatitis A & B vaccine, Viagra, Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa, Serzone, Lexpro, Effexorxir, Wellbutrin S/R and many other prescription drugs.
Amoxicillin will raise the viral load millions of points with as few as three pills The anti depressants raise the viral load slowly over time with a steady move upward. The Hepatitis A & B vaccine will raise the viral load millions of points and it will take 9 months to two years before it starts to come back down. The B vaccine will also damage your liver, raise your alt, ast and cause mercury poisoning.
Viagra raises the viral load slowly and steady
You can take Zantac, an over the counter product; it works just fine and does not raise the viral load.
Your doctor will not know this, will not believe itâ¦
I have observed over 100.000 people with Hepatitis C for over 9 years. I am certain about the information contained in this report.

My GI told me before I started TX . He would agree with 100%
He would not give me a anti-depressant until my liver enzymes where
in normal range nor raise or switch anti-depressant when the depression got real bad
at the end off TX . He said if I wanted to quit treatment he give me 35% chance of remission if
I went to alterantive . Remission staying undetectable.
Good post I wish more doctors would see thing this way.
I'll start a separate post for people to post what they are taking.
Second, have to watch overeating, for sure, I once had liver pain from my upper right chest down to my apendix, and from just left of my heart all the way around my right side to my spine, for a few days. Never want that again. That was awhile back.
MMS, it's a harsh blood purifier that destroys unhealthy cells. I heard about it in Nov 2007 and tried it 3 times. It lowered my VL on one occasion, but too much of it at once and it's nasty. Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea happened too often. Many of my Hep C friends who've tried it agree. You can read about it at miraclemineral.org. I guess it cures malaria, but the claims that it cures Hep C are unfounded, in my opinion. I don't know of anyone cured, although Jim Humble swears it has happened.
Susan hope you get good help & let us know.
I have had Hep C for 33 years and I am at stage 3 of fibrosis, but have no symptoms at all, due mostly to my diet. (thanks to my wife who is a registered nutritionist) No sugar, refined foods, junk food, dairy, meat, and mostly organic of what we do eat. And no meds. There are alternatives, for example Sam-E works great for depression, and is good for the liver also.
There are hundreds of supplements out there, so do some homework, and I'll post my present protocol that i am on now. I switch some of them about every 6-8 months, and there are others i take all the time.
Hang on!
Here I am at 12 week of tx. Have not had a 1 log drop as of week 6 VL, & wk 8 VL it went up.
Got down to 327K wk 6, then 667K wk 8. Not good news.
Monday I go for the 12wk VL. They've already told me, if not responding, they'll counsel me about halting tx. Makes more sense than doing 48wks for nothing. It was worth a shot. I've been in 100% compliance, I take this seriously. My liver is stage 3, I'm older than you are. There is a cut off age for tx. this was my chance.
There are wonderful ways to care for the liver, & this group is the place to find them.
