Selenium and Flax Oil

I found both at the store this morning so now what do I do with them? I will be getting the Omega 3 next and what is it for? Should I wait until the prednisone treatment is over before submitting my poor old body to something new? My cholesterol is fine and I take baby aspirin for whatever the artery scan found that my GP ordered two years ago. I have no heart problems other than what graves' presents me.
My One a Day Womens vitamin has 20mcg of selenium in them and this bottle is 200mcg, will that overdose? Maybe cut this in half?

Hey Pat..The daily requirement for an adult of Selenium is 400mg a day. I take 200mg because I feel Im getting the other 200mg in my diet. Selenium aids in the conversion of your T4 to T3 and it builds up the liver which is where 80% of your conversion happens. The Omega 3 is to help reduce eye muscle swelling..I take 2400mg..2 pills...a day to help with that. Take a good look at the additives in your supplements to make sure theres no artificial coloring and iodine. I feel the best place to buy supplements is in a health food store. They have a wealth of info for different health issues. Also a Cal/mag/vit D3 Citrate would also be a good choice. Make sure you get the citrate because it aids in the bodies ability to absorb it, otherwise your body eliminates it through your urine and you dont get the full benefits of it.

Great! We need something to take care of our liver with all the mess we take. I am on cal/citrate + D twice a day per my GP when I first started seeing him 3 years ago. For my old bones :-) I also take the womens vitamin with D and all the other stuff in them. I looked over the ingredients and there's no iodine or red dye..I hadn't even thought to look for that, I got lucky. What is the Flax Oil for? I don't have the Omega 3 yet, that's next. So should I start these now or wait until after the pred. treatment? I don't like to barf lol!

Hey Pat...Ii personally think its okay to take your supplements now but your really should check with your doc first. I found a site that explains the uses of flax seed oil. Since I have been in remission I switched to Omega 3-6-9 which has the flax in it. So Im taking 800mg a day of Fish Oil Blend..Flaxseed Oil and Borage Oil. I hope this helps.

Ok, thanks Kathy...I added that site to faves and will check it out in a few minutes. I called my endo when everyone was talking about selenium in here before and she said it's fine to take it. I have more pills to add to my bag of dope to take to her next Wed. lol.

    This isn't really bipolar related but there is never anyone on the parenting groups, this is the most active group I've been in.My 6yr old son has really bad seasonal allergies and they're in full force right now. He gets a terrible cough; he coughs all day and all night, making it hard for him to sleep, and his nose runs.I've tried every allergy medicine, OTC and RX, and none of them affect his...
