RED RED EYES

I wish I could say 'RED RED WINE' but my eyes are super red. They have been red for a month now (going on 4 1/2 weeks now). I finally saw the opthalmologist today and she said it's inflammation of the sclera. In other words, scleritis. It's the white part of the eye. She didn't see any significant swelling so she doesn't believe it's my Graves being triggered but she couldn't be for sure. She prescribed a steroid eye drop for 2 weeks to see if it would help. Has anyone else experienced this?

My levels have been in the normal range but in the higher end of the normal range (FREE T4). My Free T3 has been perfectly in the middle of the range.

I have tried all kinds of eye drops for dry eyes as I was diagnosed with dry eye syndrome about 4 months ago....

any thoughts?

I just wanted to add that I have ordered three lab tests that I will have tomorrow. One to test for lupus, one for RA, and one to check for inflammation. Process of elimination :)

Hi Scorpio,

I have been experiencing red sore eyes too and my sclera has red veins and lines too and I am going to see an opth as I have been told its likely TED.

How are your eyes doing now, any improvement?

HeHeHE when I seen the topic that is the exact song that came to mind lol Sorry to here abt your eyes. I think alot of us who have Graves experience so form of eye discomfort. Right now mine bulge slighty and have the little fine lines or red in them also. I notice my eyes get very red at time too but it resolves it's self in a couple of days. Hi I use to get so many comments on my pretty blue eyes until i got sick in 2006 then the red and enlargement took that from me and I hate it so... I too have Graves along with other problems, I have been on Restasis 2x a day and the Systane rewetting drops 6 to 8 times a day for the last few years. also the Steroid drops when it gets super bad and I can't hardly hold my eyes open. but i would reccommend the Systane drops you can now find them cheaper at the Dollar Store for 4.89 a box which acouple years ago they were 10.00 a box. I do feel for you cause I know how bad it burns...
