ok this is what ive been told by my Dermotologist. Men's Rogaine Foam jst to help slow the process of the hair from falling out. Than I found a greta shampoo/con and hair treatment called Nioxion ( they have a website and it is safe to use even when using rogaine because it natural but ppl who have lost hair for medical reasons have used this ) Than I started taking Evening Prime Rose Oil (Herb) In my Graves book says it helps from inside to slow hair down (My endo said it was fine to take) Than for the dry brittle breakage I used once or twice a week Chorlestrol Treatment. Do these products promote hair growth. Im loosing my hair mostly on the top of my head, similar to how a man does. I dont have bauld spots but it has become very thin. I have curly hair so I can hide it to some degree. Ive been using coconut oil for the dryness but it dosnt help with growth

I have been having so much problem with losing my hair. My husband would find me in tears because I would lose handfuls at a time. I have found that keeping it short (no longer than shoulder length) & using Pantene ProV for Thinning Hair has helped some for me. It looks like I'm going to be trying Nioxion.
I used to have waist length hair but between losing it so bad & it being harder for me to take care of I have to keep it cut. I would love to be able to have it at least a little longer than shoulder length again. Thanks so much for the info!

DairyTech~ Im not sure if it actually helps regrow but it did help stop it from coming out in clumps
MentalFog~ I know your tears i would be crying everytime i had to get in a shower or brush my hair it was terrible. I did try and look into extentsions but they were very expensive and my friend who works at a salon said with my hair being so fragile it may just break off from weight of extension. There is a term for thyroid hair its called Glass Hair

Im not sure if nioxin actually stimulates hair growth? My stylist said it works on your scalp to make it healthy which in turn promotes a healthy environment for hair growth. She did tell me a story of a lady who had lost most of her hair to cancer treatment- she used it and within 4 months she had thicker hair. My stylist says I have a triple whammy, between the radiation, steroids and graves it a wonder I have any hair at all. She promised me I would see a noticable major change in the condition of my hair. I know its expensive but I would pay lots more if it works!

cc9393~ I really like it the lady who work at the beauty suppl also told me similar stories of ppl who had undergone chemo using Nioxion and have much success. I really like it yea it is exp$ but def worth it the women also told me that try not to wash hair every day. I hope it works for you be well

I am taking some supplements right now that have stopped my hair loss. I don't have the hair all back yet, but I'm not losing clumps in the shower anymore.
I am taking GNC "Hair skin and nails" two times a day and GNC Evening primrose oil (1300mg). Both of these are iodine free, and I really feel like they're helping. I have started to take a B vitamin complex, and folic acid, too. I got Thalessemia with the Graves disease (on top of everything else) and I think this combo is helping. You just have to make sure your vitamins are all free from iodine.
I am also on Yasmin28 birth control pills. While I was in the hospital, I was off my pills for about a month and my hair fell out in clumps. Oh, just a note. With a speedy metabolism, your contraceptive pills don't work as well, apparently. I had a miscarriage this last october. I hate Graves' disease!!!

Please try Evening Primose Oil. I take 2-3 a day (1000mcgs). This has been a life saver. I have new little hairs everywhere!!! I went get a haircut about 2 weeks agao and my stylist was trying to get the new hair to lay down. i told her "No! These those new hairs alone...I happen to like them". LOL I also take alot of other vitamins, including Biotin which helps w/ nails and hair.

I went to my hair stylist today, and she cut my hair into a really cute bob. Its almost a sixties type bob with layers in the back, and longer in the front. It made my hair look almost full again. (I have hair loss like Dairytech...on the top of my head, mostly in the back.) I loved wearing my hair long, but as thin as it is, it always looked too straggly. I don't think my hair is a current trend, but I have been told by people today that it looks cute. :) Finally! A compliment. I haven't had many of those with Graves disease.

i just started using nioxin...the thing i hate about this kind of hairloss is that its alllll over and i also hacve a receding hairline....and thank god my hair is thick but i can tell even though no one can...yet atleast...and whats sad is the docters and demotaligist have to see me bald before they really notice whats going on..anyways..my quetion is

how long after it started working..i herd there is a shed phase in the begining...ive used it only two times...and wats the diff betwwen number 4 and 3?

anaelimont...3 is for people who use color on their hair. I have been using it for a few weeks. It really has slowed the hairloss and my hair is much softer and shinnier. I cant say Ive seen any major new hair growth but I do have a bunch of baby hairs growing at my hairline above my forehead. Its a start :) chin up...we will all get through this:)

oh thanks for writing back..yea ive bought number 4..alhough i have no bald orextreme thin spots its just all over i thought number 4 will help more..now im not sure..number 4 is also for colored hair..but 3 is beging stages of hair loss and number 4 was for noticably thinng..so i bought 4 thinking itll work more..but i have used it 3 times..i know it says to use it everday but i only wash my hair twice a week becuse im soooooo paraniod of seeing hair everywhere

There is a product that is supposed to be the same as Nioxin but half the price.
Nutri-ox can be purchased at beauty supply stores such as Sally's.
I have used it in the past and loved what it did for my hair.
I just got some yesterday to see if it would help with the Graves hair loss.

I hear gr8 thngs about Nioxin so i bought some on ebay. it was $42 after shipping for 2 - 8.5 oz bottles 1- 3.4 oz & a 1 oz system #2. Try ebay to save $.I read up on nioxin on Nioxin.com & i am very excited 2 get it & tell u guys what it does 4 me. beautiful hair here i come. fyi - our hair gets funky 2 cuz of the thyroid meds so nioxin will help this as well.
