We have had my gs since he was 2.5 mths and is now 1 yr old. The next hearing (no one seems to give me whether or not it will be a hearing to remove parental rights).
We only have relative caregiver status and we would love to put my gs on our insurance and have him baptized.
Both parents my son being the bio dad are not doing much in their plan and the bio mom has been in and out of hospital on 5150's at least 6 times.
The SW says that most likely the bio's won't get their son back and it does state in the court records that we will be adopting my gs. The SW also said he thinks that by the end of this year we should have adopted my gs. However; after reading many stories from other grandparents the system is full and it will be more than likely take a few years. This is why I was

As long as the caseworker and GAL are on your side, stick with it. Just know that nothing will probably happen until at least 1 year and more likely 1 1/2. But you can certainly start talking it out with them so that they realize how serious you are. They may be more likely to push it through.
My state does not have relative caregiver without guardianship. Do you only have placement without custody? It sounds like your state is different from mine. My answers above were in regards to adopting.
I was told by a Grandparent legal firm that I can't do it when there is a ongoing case because of the next court date on 4/6 or I could file a special paper to add this to the case. However; she told me that if they think we will just go into adoption they won't want to add anything to the plate. I emailed our SW to schedule our next monthly visit and that is when I will talk about this subject.

We needed court-approved papers in order to put our grandkids on my health insurance and to do other things.
We do have court papers that only state that we are relative caregivers. We need to have guardianship paperwork to put GS on our insurance and for the baptism (our church told us we had to have guardianship)
My feelings are that they are going to drag this on because the SW said even thou they know that the Bio's won't get son back the Judge will give them more than enough time so it doesn't come back later as being pushed through.
I really need to find a foster care group/Org. to get our foster care license because I have a bad feeling that this may drag on. My son knows his rights and he has a lawyer. I didn't get a copy of the last court papers and I am not sure what their plan that the judge is having them do. I do know that they don't have them do any kind of drug or alcohol testing. My son says he is suppose to do classes and he has been doing them.
The daycare cost is costly and I know if I get foster care status some of the pressures of working will be less. When I have to take off work right now I don't get paid however; I still have to pay the daycare even if he misses a day or two a week. We have several burdens we still have two children of our own at home which 1 still has 6 mths left with braces and the other one will her braces put on in July for 2 yrs which we have to also pay for. We really got screwed with daycare because my GS is a out of county foster child and our county won't give us daycare even thou our SW called them and told them we should have it. He told us that his county won't pay "out of county daycare".
My GS will be starting that SEEDS program in May and I will have to add 1 day off of work per week for that besides the cost of gas that will cost us.
Sorry for going on...it just seems that us GP's get the short end with funds where that strangers who have foster licenses get all the costs to easier...
