Hi I am new to this group. We just found out today that we will be getting our two granddaughters tomorrow to raise. They live in a different county than us. We will be going to court tomorrow and they will be placed with us then. Will we be able to get any type of assistance for the girls? We live in Ohio. A friend told me that they will give us cash assistance and medical card for the girls but no food stamps. Does anyone know if this is true? Also any help on getting things for them would be greatly appreciated. They are coming to us with nothing. I am trying to find places that will help by donating or selling stuff to us cheap. If anyone can lead me in the right direction it would be a big help. Thanks

I notice that you are in a support group for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Note that many of the grandchildren come to us with PTSD because of the abuse, neglect they have received. Oh, I just inquired on anther post by you , to see how it went in court, but now after this injury, did you even get to court?
I hope and pray your grandkids are alright and the magistrate has made the right decision for you and the kids sake.

We got the girls yesterday. We have temporary custody now but are planning on petioning for legal custody before we go back to court in November. It has been busy but we are slowly getting things together. The state wont give us the kinship money for the girls until we get legal custody of them. Its just going to make it a little tougher than we thougt but thats ok. I am looking at other agencies for help it getting things we need for them. Thanks to everyone for caring enough to ask. hugs

sorry been off a few days and just reading this tonite

Very happy you got the kids, now you know they will be safe.

When we got my granddaughter my oldest dtr (not gd mom) threw us a "grandparents shower" kinda like a baby shower and we got lots of stuff to help us. She even suggested that people give gift cards for future use when we figured out what we needed. I also use thrift stores, swap meets and yard sales.
