Boy, I'm soooo sick of CPS calling within days of wanting a visit and at their time and day! The CW is nice (much better than the other CW) but give me a break! She knows we work, She knows our busiest times are during the middle and end of month so we can get paid... BIG word PAID so we can raise these kids.
She knows I've had to take time out for dental, ortho and doctors so I can forward her the paper work for the adoption...So during spring break, when I can send them to DC and work a few hours longer, the caseworker decides to come at 11am on Thursday... This is a three day notice!

I'm tired of living my life around adults who should know better and have been reminded several times!
I;m really getting tired of this...She needs to get on the stick and get her paper work in so we can move forward on the adoption and be done!

Nuts, so sorry. These visits add to our stress for sure. We were lucky that when trying to setup visits our cw and GAL were always pretty accommodating and tried to come together so we only had one visit.

I hope this wraps up soon for you. Once we got CPS out of lives everyone relaxed and we felt like we could get on with our lives. It will happen for you too!

Not knowing all of your details, I suggest you read the Fostering adoptions act from 10/2008 and look up your rights. Secondly, I suggest you check your state website for the Department of Aging (I know you're not that old) but that is where they have an agency for grandparents raising grandchildren. They can help advocate for you. In our state, DHS is very involved and if I call the Task Force head, she immediately goes to DHS to get help. It's worth a try as I do believe these cw's in many instances feel they have more power than they do. The question you want to ask is why they need to continue these visits and if there is a valid reason, you have every right to ask for concession on times due to working. We were not in DCFS system when we got custody of our gs but we had one visit at our convenience when we adopted.

My caseworkers here in IL have always been VERY accommodating and considerate about meeting times & they work around MY schedule. Most of our visits have taken place in the evening after 5 pm. Lately there have been a few drop ins, but I'm thinking it's because we're quickly approaching adoption proceedings and the CW wants to be able to say she's dropped in unannounced and my GS was fine and being well cared for; etc. She even visits his school and talks to his teacher once in awhile. If you tell the CW you are unavailable until 5 pm, they are going to have to visit when you're available. I'd explain that you have to take off work for other things concerning the care of the grandchild(ren) and that you just cannot take off anymore time for the CW visits. I agree with Daisy. I think some of them like to make you think they have more power than they do.
