We have my Dad at home with hospice as he is slowly coming to the end of his life. Mom and Dad live next door to us so I am back and forth between the two houses spending several nights and most of my days there going into work when ever some else can cover for a few hours.

When Dad broke his hip last April the gd's had a hard time with me spending so much time between the hospital then rehab. We did a lot of talking about family and how we need to take care of each other, how my taking time to care for Grampa does not take away from my love if them, that as part of our family we ALL need to chip in and help.

I am seeing a big difference in both girls, the oldest will sit and talk to grampa and hold his hand, the youngest keeps her distance but spends time with Mor-mor. They know I stay with them until they fall asleep then go next door a few nights a week and they are fine with that.

I also think it is helping the oldest accept the death of her other grandmother who her bio mom blamed her for. At least she can now talk about it. Both girls are learning a valuable lesson in what family really is, in such they are feeling more secure in their place in this family.
