Grandparents Raising Children Support Group
This community is dedicated to grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren. In cases where the parents are not willing or able to provide adequate care for their children, grandparents may take on the role of primary caregivers. As I've mentioned before, Pinky appears to have been sober for a year this month. She met a man who is very nice (older, of course), owns his own home in Philly, and says he understands that Pinky is a "package deal" with three kids.
Pinky's plan is to marry this guy, and he'll sell his home and move to our town so the kids won't have to change schools, friends, etc. If they do all of that and stay together, etc. we MAY consider turning the kids back to her. MAY. A lot will depend, of course, on what happens down the road.
My husband and I don't think this guy knows what he's in for. He has lived alone for more than 12 years, since his divorce. According to Pinky his wife left him and took the kids to FL because he was touring with a band and never home. So I doubt he was ever involved in his children's lives when they were small.
I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to ship them off to Pinky and her fiancee for a month this summer. The thought scares me to death. But Pinky and her boyfriend would sure get a good idea what it would be like to have them full time. The expense, the loss of privacy, the noise, the constant mess, etc. etc.
I haven't brought up the subject to my husband yet, because I wanted to get some "expert opinions" first :-)

It sounds as though if you just wait long enough and stay aware (like you are) you will notice what you need to see. You will find out for yourself what you need to know to find the answer to the question. You already are!
It just takes patience...
I`ve always wanted my answers right away but I`am learning patience really is a virtue.
