Grandparents Raising Children Support Group
This community is dedicated to grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren. In cases where the parents are not willing or able to provide adequate care for their children, grandparents may take on the role of primary caregivers. We live in a small, rural community with lots of young parents and their children.
When I hear the moms and dads talk about driving their kids to soccer games, CYE classes, softball, hockey, music lessons, friends' homes, dinners out, birthday parties, etc. I get exhausted just listening! These are couples in their late 20s, early-to-mid 30s, and many of us are at least in our late 40s!!!
I signed the girls up for Girl Scouts, which they love, and our youngest will be a Cub Scout next year. Our kids stay at friends' homes, and they stay at ours. Occasionally we do a day trip or dinner.
But sometimes I feel as though we're not doing enough. The kids tell us all of the things their friends do, and we just don't have the time, money, or desire to go traipsing around to theme parks, Chuckie Cheeses, museums, yada-yada.
Have you all plunged into all of the kiddie activities?

You are so right....this is NOT a competition which is what I have been saying all along, we are all doing our best with the circumstances we have in our lives. I do not believe you have to spend money to be involved with them, and someone else said that sometimes just a game night is wonderful, I agree. Sometimes we do things that don't cost anything but are worth more than the price of the admission ticket to one of the theme parks! We are all being the best parents we can given the circumstances and our gc are all very lucky because we care about them something their bio's didn't do or they would be with them instead of us.
We live in So Ca about an hour away from Disneyland but have never taken Missy because as someone stated the prices are ridiculous, instead we have gone to local free festivals and had just as much fun. The bottom line is that we all do the best we can and the most important thing to these kids is that we are there and they feel safe and secure and I think we are all doing a terrific job of that so I'm giving us all a high five!!
In my case as much as I wish it... the bio's will never get their act together so gd has no chance of ever living with them, she's stuck with us but she seems pretty happy to be stuck with us ole folks, lol.
Getting old is a B isn't it??? but it does have it's perks....give me that senior discount, lol
