I have talked to a lawyer and have an appointment with her again tomorrow as my husband is acting like a 15 yr old and spending so much money like there is no tomorrow. I need to protect myself financially as well as physically and emotionally. I removed him from my Mastercard today and had my son text him to let him know he has one credit card and a checking account with a small amount of money in it. I suggested he keep track of his expenses in a letter, so he makes sure he has enough money to live on.
I got free Family Law software from a divorce financial planner and have spent the last couple of months filling out the data in case it came to this. I talked to her today and she suggested I meet again with the lawyer. I had planned on doing the divorce papers myself, but because of the restraining order affecting mediation, I need to involve a lawyer to make sure I am protected financially.
The judge will have the final decision. There is a formula in my state that looks at the years you were married and the contributions of each partner. It was to protect women and I understand this as I was once a young mother with 2 kids on my way to a women's shelter with $14 to my name. The experience made me determined to go back to school. I worked full time as a CNA and had my LPN for 7 yrs before going back to school for my RN. I have been an RN for the last 24 yrs. What's frustrating is I will be supporting him because he doesn't have the guts to be an adult, get physically and mentally healthy and get a job.
I did have hope when this first started as we both quit drinking and smoking 26 yrs ago and the next 22 yrs were good. But, I think that man has disappeared and not sure he will ever be back. So my grandkids and I are my priority and I am going to be the adult no matter how scary it is and no matter how much I have to work. I am still extremely blessed that I am not a 24 yr old women with 2 kids living in a women's shelter.
Thanks for your encouragement! No more waiting.
