Does anyone know at what age a child is no longer eligible for Medical Assistance and Kinship Grants? Just wondering because my grandson will be 18 at the beginning of his Senior year in high school. Will he be dropped when he turns 18 even though he is still in high school? I know it's 3 years away yet, but the answer will impact our decisions on medical insurance coverage and budgeting for my retirement over the next couple of years.

Hi, I don;t have an answer for you, but I would like to know more about the kinship grants. I have costody of my 21 month old grndson. childrens services were not involved. Can I still get the grant ?

I think it depends on your state and even your county. We receive $215/month from Kinship for our grandson in our county. Friends in the county next door to us received nothing for their granddaughter. I think you can call Social Services and ask about it. We have guardianship of our grandson - both of his parents signed the papers.

I think you need to check with your state worker, I do know that my daughter didn't finish high school until she was almost 20 because she missed more than a year from a car accident and I recieved medicare for her as long as she was in school. I hope it's the same for you.

I am sorry I don't have answers for you, however, may I advise you to contact your current sources and they can/will be able to talk with you concerning this matter. We, too, have a grandson who is now in his first year of college, and he is doing well. The grandson has been with us since he was a small baby. My husband and I are now in our 70's and adore this child as you do yours. I wish many wonderful things for you and your family. There is help for you, do not become dismayed. AS LONG AS THE CHILD IS IN SCHOOL THEY SHOULD RECEIVE INSURANCE. NO MATTER WHAT THE AGE. AT LEAST THAT IS HOW IT IS IN PA. IF THEY GO TO COLLEGE THEY ARE STILL COVERED.
