The grandson I am raising was in hospital for 3+ months due to prematurity. 1 1/2 pounds. They can do so much for these kids now.
Amazing stuff.
It was a constant worry for his health and he spent more than half his short life in the hospital. We were told he could live till his early teens but sadly our little grandbaby died last year aged 15mths. It was a blessing for him as his quality of life was so poor. The parents have since split and the entire family divided - including both sets of grandparents.
So my prayers are with you and for your family. I truly hope your baby grandson gets his vision back . I never thought being a grandma would be this rewarding and at the same time so difficult. I believe you feel the same. Sending you much love warmth and prayers.
I am a pediatric specialty nurse that deals with children like your grandson on a daily basis. The thing I have found is that LOVE is the greatest healer. Children who are surrounded by pure unconditional love, and lots of attention do better than kids without this support.
God lends us these precious babies for a reason, and we may never know that reason.Be it days or many years, however long you and your family have this special child in your lives, enjoy every minute and make sure he knows how much he is loved.
If there is a pediatric palliative care home visiting agency in your sons area have him ask the doctor for a referral. These folks are a wealth of knowledge and practical advice to help parents cope with the challenges. Most are so supportive and helpful they make the transition to home so much easier.
Faith and hope will help you through this.
I see a 2 year old that has trisomy 13, she was supposed to live 3 months max. She is blind, and has a host of other issues as well. She is now crawling and beginning to pull up on things. She also holds her own sippy cup and can navigate in her home environment independently. Miracles do happen.
