It is an intensely painful disease, which in most cases affects only one joint (monoarthritis), most commonly the big toe. The classic picture is of excruciating and sudden pain, swelling, redness, warmness and stiffness in the joint. Low-grade fever may also be present.

What is your general dosage for ibuprofen when you have an attack. I'm finding I use 2,400 mg straight away and often another 1,600 mg over the next 12 hours. Am a bit concerned that this may be pushing the limits of safety especially if the attack lasts for a few days.

But then I had Gastrial-by-pass surgery and am not allowed to take any NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) which iburprofen falls under.
Every so often I still take the ibuprofen but cut it to 2-4 a day and plenty of extra strenth tylenol. One thing you have to be careful of about ibuprofen - it can damage your kidneys. Same with hydrocodone.
I am a diabetic. Have had no kidney problems in the past but at my last visit - dr saw a change in kidney to where will be having another test in 4 months and might have to go to kidney specialist. Am so afraid of that to where I have sworn off ibuprofen and just suffer. Hubby knows to stay as far away from me when I get my attacks.
