Gout is a form of arthritis caused by the accumulation of uric acid crystals in joints. It is an intensely painful disease, which in most cases affects only one joint (monoarthritis), most commonly the big toe. The classic picture is of excruciating and sudden pain, swelling, redness, warmness and stiffness in the joint. Low-grade fever may also be present.

I thought I had my trigger worked out (high blood pressure) but now I'm not so sure. This morning I had a mild attack of gout in my ankle (the first time there) and am wondering what other people's delay is between eating something that causes your gout (or setting off your trigger) and the onset of an attack? A day? 2 days?
Just trying to figure out what set off this latest attack.

The oyster trigger is 4 to 5 days before the attack. In that time on each occasion of an attack I had consumed one glass of red wine.
I know wine is also a trigger for me with a quicker but milder onset.
I eat red meat probably 4 times a week so I probably have a high purine level.
