Gastroparesis?

In my opinion probably side effects from Nexium. I took Prilosec for 8 months and had severe stomach pain, nausea, bloating, fatigue, gas. I didn't correlate this to the drug just thought my condition was getting worse. Had all types of tests EGD, colonoscopy, liver/gallbladder ultrasound. HIDA scan and all came back negative. All my bloodwork was OK too.Like you I didn't have heartburn anymore and I thought it could be something else. But it wasn't. I switched to Protonix and all the conditions went away. All PPI's are not the same and each person responds differently to each drug. Ask the Dr. to change your medicine and find the one with the least side effects for you. The proton pump inhibitors work about the same, some better than others. Recently I heard that Nexium could have a rebound effect ie. the more you take it, the more you have to continue to take it. Any of them stop the production of acid but it doesn't solve the underlying problem of the lower esophageal sphincter opening at an innapropriate time. The lack of the acid also means that your meal passes through basically undigested and can cause all kinds of allergic reactions because the food is being absorbed through the wrong part of the alimentary canal (leaky gut syndrome). I don't have any definitive answers except the old standby of watch what you eat, when you eat, raise the head of the bed and don't go to sleep with a full stomach. I started with Nexium 21 years ago and have gone through most of the others since. I now take generic nexium by prescription and get 24-36 hours relief from it. Someone pointed out years ago (not a medical person) that you can also get alkili burns from too low a ph level. Again, all the information that is on the internet still does not give an answer that I can live with and it is a daily struggle for balance in my life. This kind of pain controls my life and the continual tension about the end result passes through my brain on a regular basis.
